Court Services Victoria provides corporate services and facilities to support the performance of the judicial, quasi-judicial and administrative functions of Victoria's courts and tribunal, Judicial College and Judicial Commission. The Magistrates' Court of Victoria (MCV) is the first level of the Victorian court system and is a jurisdiction within the Court Services Victoria. It has a long history of providing justice for the people of Victoria in metropolitan and regional courts across the state. The Court determines in excess of 300,000 cases per annum at 51 locations, equating to approximately 90 percent of all cases that come before Victorian courts each year. The Court aims to be an innovative, accessible, and responsive court that provides quality services to the Victorian community.

About the Role

The Family Violence Applicant Practitioner (FVAP) plays a key role in supporting applicants experiencing family violence at the Magistrates' Court. Working as part of a specialist team, the FVAP provides support, assesses safety risks, and connects clients with community services to enhance safety and wellbeing.

Provide non-legal information and support to family violence applicants at court

Assess immediate safety risks and develop safety plans

Refer clients to appropriate community services for ongoing support

Work collaboratively with the Family Violence Registrar and Respondent Practitioner

Contribute to improving safety outcomes for women and children

- Support accountability for perpetrators of family violence

About You

Tertiary qualification in social work, psychology, social sciences, or related field (Diploma or higher preferred)

Strong experience working within the family violence service system

Skilled in crisis support, risk assessment, and case coordination

- Knowledge of the Family Violence Protection Act 2008, risk frameworks, and Victoria Police Code of Practice
Understanding of related issues such as housing, legal, financial, AOD, mental health, and cognitive impairment

- Awareness of intersectionality and its impact on service delivery to diverse and minority groups
