About the role
GCMarine is an award-winning Marine Construction Company based at Arundel on the Gold Coast. Currently we are contracted to completed Stage 2 of a +300m timber boardwalk in Biggera Waters and as a result, we are now seeking to engage qualified and/or experienced Carpenters/Chippy's to join our team as part of a Chippy Crew to complete this project. This is an employee and/or contract position that could lead to full time work, where you will be primarily responsible for completing all decking work and other associated timber work for the project to a very high standard.
What you'll be doing:
- Working 6am to 4pm, Monday to Friday, with overtime rate of x1.5 paid after the first 38 hours (weather depending)
- Lead your own Chippy Team, lead a recently formed Chippy Team OR be a part of a Chippy Team to complete said work
- The hard work is done i.e. timber joists and bearers are in place. All that's needed now is to fit-out the hardwood decking and some cosmetic finishes
- Starting on site most days, you and your crew will need the ability to read and understand drawings/plans to ensure work is accurate
- Providing your own PPE gear as required
- Either providing your own tools or having tools provided to complete the said works
- Collaborating with the Project Manager, Operations Manager and wider construction team to deliver high-quality results
- Maintaining a safe and tidy work environment
- Completing all work to the highest standard
- Completing all work on time and on budget
What we're looking for
- Minimum 2 years' experience as a qualified Carpenter, preferably in the construction industry
- Strong practical carpentry skills and the ability to read and interpret technical drawings
- Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to quality workmanship is a MUST
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
- Strong safety awareness and a proactive approach to identifying and mitigating risks
- Reliable, punctual and dedicated to delivering high-quality work
- Someone who has the ability to communicate and lead and/or be a part of a team
- Someone who has their own reliable transport and valid drivers license
We're looking for a passionate, proactive, and hardworking, qualified Carpenter / Chippy who can lead or be part of a team, to start this project on or about 5 January 2026. Depending on numbers of successful applicants, we anticipate to project to run for weeks. Remuneration will be dependent on what you bring to the table i.e. Skill Set, Tools etc...
