Are you passionate about sport and recreation, or outdoor education, and looking to kick-start your career?
The Australian Training Company (ATC) is offering two exciting 12-month traineeships in partnership with the Health, Outdoor and Physical Education (HOPE) Faculty at a Northside College.
As a trainee, you'll gain hands-on experience supporting school sport, outdoor education, and recreation programs. All while completing a Nationally Recognised Certificate III in Sport and Recreation (course fees fully covered and included in your paid role).
What You'll Do
You will work closely with the teachers, staff, students, and the wider school community throughout the traineeship.
Your responsibilities will include:
Sports & Outdoor Recreation Support:
- Assisting with team trials, training sessions, coaching, administration of excursions, one day carnivals and intercollege sport.
- Supporting outdoor recreation camps, excursions, and student activities. Ensuring specialised equipment and facilities are safe, maintained, and ready for use.
Events, Communication & Promotion:
- Helping organise and promote sporting events and outdoor recreation programs, including the use of digital platforms such as Canva.
- Celebrating student achievements through newsletters and creative content to be posted on social media.
- Researching opportunities for growth, including grants and sponsorships to support school programs.
Leadership & Mentoring:
- Acting as a positive role model for students aged 16–18.
- Mentoring and encouraging students to participate in sport and outdoor recreation.
- Building supportive and professional relationships with staff, students, and families both verbally and in writing.
Professional Development:
- Completing all training and assessment for your Certificate III in Sport and Recreation.
- Staying up to date with best practices in sport, recreation, and outdoor recreation.
- Gaining experience in administration, leadership, and event management.
Please note: Some activities occur outside normal school hours. Time-in-lieu will be provided.
What We're Looking For
Essential
- A genuine passion for sport, recreation, and/or outdoor recreation.
- Reliability, maturity, and commitment to a 12-month traineeship.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Confident use of ICT, including Microsoft and Google apps.
- Ability to work with young people in a positive and professional manner.
- Current Working With Vulnerable People registration (or ability to obtain).
Desirable
- Current First Aid and CPR certification (or willingness to obtain).
- Certificate II in Sport & Recreation
- Experience participating in or supporting sporting and outdoor programs.
- Leadership qualities and initiative.
- Good level of personal fitness and professionalism.
