Sydney, New South Wales, Australia Harvey Norman Full time $73,000 - $79,000 per year

Harvey Norman Holdings Limited (HNHL) is an Australian publicly listed company that has 195 franchised complexes in Australia and 108 company-operated stores in overseas markets. Harvey Norman is a retail icon in Australia and in 7 countries overseas, with a strong market reputation in the retail categories of furniture and bedding, electrical goods, small appliances and computers and communications.

The Franchisor Office of HNHL, located in Homebush West, is seeking a technically strong and enthusiastic Financial Reporting Accountant to join the Franchisor Accounting Team on a full time basis, 38 hours per week, to assist in the preparation of the Franchisor Management Reports which represents the Franchisor's version of the operating results of Harvey Norman, Domayne and JoyceMayne Franchisees in Australia.

There are approximately 550 independent Harvey Norman, Domayne and Joyce Mayne legal entities in Australia and this is an integral role within the Franchisor Accounting Team to monitor and evaluate Franchisee transactions to ensure compliance with Franchise Agreements. The preparation of the Franchisor's version of the operating results of each Franchisee assists the Franchisor to charge Franchise Fees in accordance with the signed Franchise Agreements.

Specifically, this role will focus on Franchisee rebate entitlements from their Suppliers – including the calculation of purchase volume rebates (PVR) as per the agreed Trading Terms with the respective Supplier and any over-and-above (O&A) rebates offered by Suppliers for specific marketing campaigns and promotions. This will involve the detailed calculation of PVR and O&A rebate entitlements of each Franchisee and in providing Suppliers to Franchisees with the appropriate supporting documentation to be able to validate the claims. Once validated, the Franchisee Rebates will be automatically deducted from the next Supplier payment. Effective Rebates Reporting and Analysis is then communicated to General Managements and the Board of HNHL.

Responsibilities:

  • Management of Franchisee PVR and O&A rebate entitlements within the SAP financial system to ensure that Franchisee rebate offers are completely and accurately captured within SAP Condition Contracts (maintenance table for rebate agreements).
  • Calculation of Franchisee PVR and O&A rebate entitlements within SAP to ensure that Franchisee rebates are complete and accurate and are calculated and deducted in the correct accounting period.
  • Validation of Franchisee PVR and O&A claims with Suppliers and processing of adjustments, where necessary.
  • Automatically deduct approved PVR and O&A claims from the next Supplier payment processed from the Franchisee's financial accommodation facility (revolving line of credit) with the Franchisor.
  • Using the SAP S/4HANA general ledger system, ensure the correct accounting treatment is applied to release PVR and O&A rebates to the income statement when the Franchisee has earned its entitlement to the rebates.
  • Prepare and analyse detailed Rebates Reports each month to validate the completeness and accuracy of the rebates process and provide Rebates Reports to General Managers and the Board of HNHL.
  • Assist the Franchisor Accounting team with its month-end close duties to prepare Franchisor Management Reports (franchisor's version of the operating results of each Franchisee) and assist the team in calculating and charging Franchise Fees in accordance with signed Franchise Agreements.
  • Franchisor Accounting Reporting to General Managers and the Board of HNHL.
  • Liaise with Proprietors (Directors of Franchisees) and their Administration Managers/Staff for any queries and ad hoc requests concerning Franchisor Management Reports.

Required Skills:To be successful in this position, you will possess the following:

  • Strong communication skills are required to effectively communicate with Suppliers and resolve any variances or discrepancies expeditiously
