About the Liver Transplant Unit
As the state-wide provider of liver transplant services for Victoria, Tasmania and parts of southern New South Wales, the Austin Liver Transplant Unit also provides surgical services for paediatric liver transplants performed at the Royal Children's Hospital. The unit performed its first transplant in 1988 and continues to grow and build a reputation of excellence. Over 1500 liver transplants, including over 150 paediatric liver transplants, have been performed since 1988.
Austin Health has developed expertise in the assessment and coordinated management of liver disease. Patients with liver disease are assessed by an expert team who provide a range of services including viral hepatitis clinic, hepatology and transplant services and specific programs and clinics for management of hepatocellular carcinoma.
Hepatocellular carcinoma is the 5th most common cancer diagnosis and is the 3rd leading cancer cause of death worldwide. As the state-wide provider of liver transplant services for Victoria and Tasmania, Austin Health is the only treating center in Victoria and Tasmania to provide all treatment options for patients.
About the role
An exciting opportunity exists for an enthusiastic, suitably experienced, and passionate individual to join the liver transplant unit at Austin Health, in a full-time position working as a Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) Clinical Nurse Consultant (CNC). Specifically, we are seeking an experienced Registered Nurse with a minimum of 5 years substantial clinical experience in a relevant clinical area to join our hepatoma team. The Hepatoma CNC plays a pivotal role in the co-ordination and management of patients with liver cancer in the outpatient environment and is intricately involved in the delivery of care and management of patients.
As a Hepatoma Clinical Nuse Consultant you will be involved in:
- Delivering high quality patient centred care
- Critical thinking and decision making at a senior nursing level
- Management of patients and treatment provided within the cancer optimal care pathways
- Prepare for the weekly HCC multi-disciplinary meeting (MDM) and clinic, including patient scheduling, investigation follow-up and organisation of all films for radiological review
- Triaging all referrals (overseas, interstate and local)
- Ensure safety of follow up
- Self-management (Emotional intelligence)
About you
You will be someone with excellent communication, collaboration and interpersonal skills
You will also have:
Current registration as a registered nurse with Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA)
Extensive clinical experience in a relevant clinical area, ideally Gastroenterology, interventional radiology, oncology or critical care.

- Demonstrated ability to use clinical information systems
