Location: Sydney or Melbourne
THE ROLE:
This role is highly customer-facing and requires daily engagement with clients, partners, and internal teams. Working closely with the Sales organisation, as a Senior Presales Engineer, you will guide customers from early discovery through to post-sales handover. Managing opportunities, collaborating with peers, and helping drive deals to closure will be core parts of your routine. You will be the customer's Trusted Advisor at all stages through their journey. You will be naturally curious, and keen to understand how your customer works. You will be focused on how the value of IGEL can help customers succeed.
You should expect regular travel across Australia and New Zealand, typically 2–3 weeks each month, and 2-3 days each of those weeks. A strong learning mindset, curiosity, and a proactive "can-do" attitude are essential. You'll be supported by an experienced, motivated team who are committed to sharing their knowledge and helping you grow. You'll be a great presenter and comfortable presenting at Customer/Partner events, high-level customer meetings and being a true advocate for IGEL technology in the ANZ region.
The primary focus of this role is engaging with large enterprise and upper mid-market customers across ANZ, including key industries such as Healthcare, Government, Finance, Manufacturing, and Retail environments where complex EUC landscapes demand scalable, secure, and well-architected solutions.
TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
As a Senior Presales Engineer for ANZ, you will play a key role in supporting IGEL's UK/I & APAC Presales organisation and delivering an exceptional technical experience to customers and partners across the region. Your responsibilities will include:
Customer Engagement & Technical Leadership
- Serve as the primary technical contact for new customers from initial discovery and qualification through to post-sales handover.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with customers and partners through virtual meetings and on-site visits across ANZ.
- Analyse customer needs, design tailored technical solutions, and architect EUC environments in line with IGEL reference architecture and best practices.
- Prepare, execute, and support proof of concepts to demonstrate solution value.
- Present and demonstrate IGEL technology at industry events, roadshows, partner sessions, and tradeshows.
- Ensure clear, professional, and proactive communication with customers and internal teams throughout the engagement lifecycle.
- Take ownership of technical RFIs, RFPs, and public tender responses, ensuring high-quality submissions delivered on time.
- Work on complex projects that require solid problem-solving skills and independent judgement.
- Assist technology partners integrating their solutions with IGEL OS and coordinate handover to the IGEL Ready team where appropriate.
- Use remote tools to demonstrate IGEL solutions, troubleshoot issues, and guide customers through technical evaluations.
- Document technical issues, solution progress, and sales opportunity status using IGEL's Presales Management System, including managing escalations to maintain momentum.
- Work through technical challenges at the operating system level as required.
- Collaborate closely with Development, Customer Engineering, Advanced Services, Sales, Marketing, and Leadership teams to develop and refine technical sales strategies.
- Communicate customer and market requirements to Product Management and Development to influence product direction.
- Support less-experienced colleagues when needed and contribute to team knowledge-sharing and best-practice development.
- Promote IGEL training, services, and certification programmes to customers and partners.
- Become a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in one or more technology stacks relevant to IGEL's ecosystem.
- Maintain strong technical expertise through continuous learning, training sessions, and reading documentation.
- Travel regularly across Australia and New Zealand, with occasional travel to EMEA and/or the US for sales conferences, enablement sessions, and team meetings.
Personal Skills
- Demonstrated expertise with a high level of proficiency in presales and customer-facing technical roles.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex topics clearly to engineers, sales teams, and senior management.
- Strong presentation and storytelling skills, capable of delivering impactful product demonstrations and workshops.
- Collaborative team player who builds strong working relationships at all levels of an organisation.
- Flexible, solutions-oriented mindset with strong integrity and creative problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to break down and explain complex technical concepts in a simple and accessible way.
- Confident communicating via phone, email, and virtual collaboration tools.
- Effective listener who demonstrates patience and professionalism when working with customers, partners, and colleagues.
- Quick to learn new technologies and adapt to evolving requirements.
- Able to work independently with minimal supervision while maintaining high productivity and accountability.
- Strong note-taking, documentation, and organisational skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and perform well under pressure.
- Positive attitude and strong work ethic, with a focus on delivering excellent customer experiences.
- Minimum of 4+ years of experience in a Presales Engineer or similar technical customer-facing role.
- Working knowledge of Linux operating systems desired.
- Familiarity with IGEL products—especially IGEL OS, Universal Management Suite (UMS), and IGEL Cloud Gateway (ICG)—or with comparable thin-client or endpoint OS platforms.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Windows operating systems.
- Hands-on experience with one or more digital workspace or VDI technologies: Microsoft Remote Desktop Services, Azure Virtual Desktop, AWS WorkSpaces/AppStream, Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops, VMware Horizon.
- Solid understanding of core networking concepts including TCP/IP, DHCP, DNS, Active Directory, and related technologies.
- Understanding of the broader EUC ecosystem and the solutions provided by IGEL's key technology partners.
