Mossman Support Services (MSS) is a not-for-profit regional community organisation providing services, programs and activities for people in the Douglas Shire. The staff and volunteers of MSS strive to build a community that cares and supports the vulnerable and disadvantaged, by providing services for those in need. We work to remove barriers to opportunity and social inclusion and improve the quality of life for individuals in our community.
We have a holistic, person-centred approach to caring for individuals that enables us to deliver services that provide effective solutions to each person based on their individual needs. We respond to individual circumstance and engage service users in their support planning to enable positive outcomes to be achieved.
We are currently seeking applicants to fill a part time role as a Community Engagement Worker. The position is a fixed term position with a possibility it may be extended. The hours of work will be 18 hours per week (3 days, negotiation of days may be available ). You will be working in a team environment with the Community Development Team.

PURPOSE
This is a community-facing role that is expected to meet operational demands when balancing hours between office, on site and other locations working in a team environment.
To plan, coordinate and implement current programs including the She Shed and Garden Club as well as further programs, projects and activities using a co design approach that positively impacts on the needs and interests of members of the community and the community as a whole. The goal of the programs and projects is sustainability, so the work created has a chance of continuing on long-term without the direct input of a worker.
The Community Engagement Worker will also use their skills and strategies to foster volunteering by promoting opportunities, encouraging and supporting community members to contribute through volunteering.
You will need: tertiary qualifications or relevant experience in a similar role. The ability to manage a busy, diverse workload. Proven experience in reporting and an ability to manage social media and promotion of projects and programs.

Part time – Fixed term until 30th November 2025, with the potential to extend after this time.
HOURS OF WORK: 18 hours per week
SALARY: Level 4.1 SCHADS Award

Time off in Lieu (TOIL) arrangements apply for hours worked outside of nominated hours.

You will leverage your skills in project management, stakeholder and community engagement, and creative thinking to skilfully engage with community members experiencing hardship, loneliness and isolation responding to the impacts of disadvantage as well as community strengths and collaboration building on community connections as a whole.

POSITION OBJECTIVES:

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- To plan, coordinate and implement programs, projects and activities that impact on the needs and interests of members of the community
- To contribute to the identification, development and implementation of quality and service improvement activities including effective risk management in order to enhance the delivery of safe and effective services.
- To support operations of the Community Centre, Cottage, The Community HUB and the community development programs i.e., Men's Shed, Playgroup, Community Kitchen, Sewing Group, Community Garden Program
To support volunteer recruitment, training, monitoring and support for the Mossman Community Centre working with the various volunteer groups to build on capacity
Liase with attendees for feedback and collaboration
Analyse current programs and areas to build on.
To participate in other community groups and represent Mossman Support Services as directed by the Manager;
- Data collection, collation for entry into CSM Flex Data System and reporting to Department of Communities management system and Department Social Services Data Exchange Program,
- Assisting in the compilation of monthly and quarterly statistical reports detailing the services outcomes to be submitted to the Board, the Department of Communities and Department of Social Services.
- To ensure the security of Mossman Support Services property and assets;
- To understand and conduct all duties in compliance with Departmentmental Service Agreement and Mossman Support Services policies and procedures,
- To provide fortnightly timesheets detailing hours worked for self and staff under your direction
Design and distribute media information on the programs and services of MSS and Com Development.through social media, print and face to face engagements

Take on community feedback to build on programs and processes
Liaise with key industry stakeholders to identify gaps and community needs for program growth and implement initiatives in response
Proactively engage, consult and communicate with community stakeholders through presentations, community activities, group facilitation and partnership building
Work with the various volunteer groups to build on capacity
Liase with attendees for feedback
Analyse current programs and areas to build on.
Using codesign model, develop and deliver identified community events
Conduct participant sourcing activities to attract new participants to the programs
ACCOUNTABILITY
- The Community Engagement Officer functions in a team environment with other staff to provide high quality and efficient support and customer service to the clients, staff, volunteers and Board of Directors;
- is directly responsible to the Manager.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED
- Degree or diploma qualification or demonstrated experience in community services in particular project management, community consultation and submission writing;
- Positive notice to Work with Children (Blue Card)/ workers screening check
- Current First Aid and CPR Certificate
- Minimum "C" class drivers license;
- Knowledge and understanding of community engagement strategies and project management, adhering to budgeting and relevant contractual and government guidelines

SELECTION CRITERIA
SC 1. Tertiary qualifications in Community Development, Human Services, Social Work and/or behavioural/social sciences with a minimum of three years relevant industry experience or substantial experience.
SC 2. Demonstrated skills and experience in planning, implementing and coordinating projects, events and workshops using codesign approach.
SC 3. Demonstrated understanding of cultural awareness and diversity
SC 4. Demonstrated ability to work autonomously and with a team to maintain motivation and enthusiasm in developing, promoting, delivering and reporting on programs and events using strength based approach.
SC6. Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills
SC7. Demonstrated high level of oral and written communication skills, IT skills and submission writing skills.
