The Senior Psychologist, Education coordinates and professionally supervises a team of school counsellors/school psychologists to deliver high quality psychological services to schools. They work closely with schools, other members of educational services teams and agencies to improve student learning and wellbeing outcomes.
The Senior Psychologist, Education provides professional leadership in the delivery of psychological services to school communities and has a key leadership role as part of the networked specialist centres.
Wauchope High School is a comprehensive, co-educational secondary school which sits proudly on Birpai country in the Hastings Valley on the Mid North Coast, providing education to the largely rural community from Wauchope and the surrounding localities. Some students travelling considerable distances each day to attend school. The school's location is reflected in strong agriculture and marine studies programs. The current student population is approximately 450 students. Students with special needs are supported both in mainstream classes and in a large Supported Learning unit. In addition to the school's entitlement of teaching and non-teaching staff, the school employs an Aboriginal Education Officer to support the learning needs of the 23% of students who identify as Aboriginal and who are also supported through equity programs.
School facilities include a school farm, gymnasium, yarning circle and trade training centre with commercial kitchens extensively used in the Hospitality programs run by the school. These facilities support the delivery of a diverse curriculum which includes VET courses, industrial technology courses and specialist programs such as i-STEM. Students have the opportunity to study a School-Based Apprenticeship or Traineeship as a pathway to completing their Year 12 studies. Selection CriteriaIn addition to the general selection criteria:
- High level knowledge and skills in the provision of psychological assessment, counselling and evidence-based interventions within a school context.
- Demonstrated capacity to lead, clinically supervise and professionally develop school counsellors/school psychologists, including those working towards registration as a psychologist.
- Demonstrated capacity to build and maintain collaborative relationships with key stakeholders to support the learning and wellbeing of students, including students with complex and diverse needs.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and implement Department of Education priorities and initiatives within the school counselling service and in response to serious incidents
Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice
Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs
Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams
Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents
Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning
Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policy
- An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
- Successful experience as a school counsellor and registration as a psychologist.
- Ability and willingness to travel between worksites
