About the role

As the Principal Solicitor at Bayside Community Legal Service, you will play a pivotal role in providing high-quality legal services to the local community. In this part-time position based in Wynnum, Queensland, you will oversee the operations of the legal service and lead a team of dedicated volunteer solicitors, and support staff.

What you'll be doing

  • Supervising the provision of legal advice and assistance to clients on a range of matters including family law, domestic violence, criminal law, and consumer disputes
  • Ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, regulations, and professional codes of conduct
  • Managing the day-to-day operations of the legal service, including file management, client intake, and staff supervision
  • Developing and implementing strategic plans to enhance the service's reach and impact within the community
  • Engaging with key stakeholders, such as community organisations and government agencies, to build partnerships and secure funding
  • Overseeing the training and professional development of the legal service's staff
  • Representing the legal service in various forums and advocating for the rights of the community

What we're looking for

  • A Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree and a current principal solicitor practising certificate
  • At least 5 years of experience as a solicitor, with a proven track record of providing high-quality legal services in a community legal setting
  • Strong leadership and management skills, with the ability to motivate and develop a team of legal professionals
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with a diverse range of clients and stakeholders
  • A deep understanding of the legal issues and challenges facing the local community, and a commitment to providing accessible and inclusive legal services
  • Experience in strategic planning, project management, and financial management
