About Us

At State Transport, we deliver precision freight and logistics solutions across Australia — 24/7, every day. With a fleet of over 250 vehicles and integrated warehousing, tracking and communication systems, we pride ourselves on being agile, dependable and customer-centric. We believe in direct lines of contact, personalised service and solving problems real-time.

The Opportunity

We are looking for a hands-on, experienced Fleet Controller to join our Melbourne operations team. In this role you'll be central to coordinating our fleet movements, supporting drivers, liaising with clients and keeping our service delivery at the high standard our customers expect.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate day-to-day fleet movements across metro and regional runs using GPS tracking tools and dispatch systems.
  • Respond to enquiries from drivers and clients, providing timely updates and support.
  • Process high volumes of transport bookings via phone and email, maintaining scheduling accuracy.
  • Monitor service performance and handle any delays, issues or additional charge situations.
  • Ensure all operational documentation is maintained — PODs, pallet movements, detention logs, job notes.
  • Support drivers to correctly use mobile apps and systems so job/time data is captured accurately.
  • Escalate operational or staffing issues to the Operations Manager when necessary.
  • Collaborate with the administration and operations teams to ensure workflow and efficiency across the business.
  • Participate in driver support, training and service-recovery activities as required.
  • Maintain a strong focus on customer service across every transport activity.
  • Assist with driver onboarding — ensuring all compliance requirements (fatigue, mass, load restraint, dangerous goods) are met.
  • Provide after-hours support on a rostered basis when required.

Skills & Experience

  • At least 2 years' experience in fleet coordination, managed freight or logistics operations.
  • Proven customer service focus and ability to problem solve under pressure.
  • Strong proficiency in MS Excel, Word and Outlook.
  • Confident communicator with strong literacy and numeracy skills.
  • Familiarity with logistics systems, dispatch/tracking platforms and real-time monitoring.
  • Sound knowledge of compliance regimes including fatigue management, mass/load restraints and DG (dangerous goods) regulations.
  • Able to work collaboratively across multiple teams, yet also independently resolve issues when needed.
  • Comfortable using mobile driver technology and operational documentation tools.
  • Able to multitask and perform in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.

What We Offer

  • A stable, full-time role with one of Australia's leading logistics providers.
  • Genuine opportunity to grow within the logistics sector in a business that rewards initiative and customer-first thinking.
  • A supportive, collaborative operations team with real focus on service delivery and consistency.
  • Exposure to a broad variety of fleet operations (metro/regional runs, 3PL, linehaul) giving you excellent skill development.
  • Opportunity to make a real difference to our drivers, clients and business outcomes.
