Family Wellbeing Support Services Practitioner: North

Launceston, Tasmania

Full-time 1.0 FTE (38 hours per week)

Fixed term to 30 June 2027

CatholicCare Tasmania is the primary social services agency of the Catholic Church across Tasmania. We have 60 years' experience delivering a wide range of services and support to improve individual, family and community wellbeing. Our services are available and open to all with a particular focus on families, young people and children.

About the Program

The Family Wellbeing Support Service (FWSS) provides early-intervention and practical support to families, children, and young people across Northern Tasmania. The program works to strengthen relationships, build parenting capacity, and create safe, stable home environments where families can thrive. Our team partners with families to address challenges before they escalate, supporting improved wellbeing, resilience, and community connection.

About the Role

In this role you will work across schools, community settings, and families' homes to deliver evidence-informed, early-intervention support for children, young people, and their families. Our program draws on established models to support children to build emotional literacy, improve resilience, strengthen relationships, and engage more fully in school and community life.

You will be joining a team that values creativity, engagement, and connection. We are looking for a practitioner who is outgoing, energetic, and enjoys designing and delivering engaging group and one-to-one sessions, running parenting workshops, and working alongside children in school settings. You will support families on their journey toward stronger wellbeing, helping them identify and build on strengths, and fostering safe, nurturing environments where children can thrive.

As a Family Wellbeing Support Services Practitioner, you will:

  • Work alongside families focused on safety, wellbeing, and family connection
  • Provide in-home and community-based support to strengthen parenting capacity and household stability
  • Collaborate closely with schools, health, and community partners to achieve sustainable outcomes

You'll be based in Launceston and provide outreach support across the Northern region.

About You

You're a compassionate and practical professional who values family-centred, strengths-based practice.

You bring:

  • A tertiary qualification in Social Work, Community Services, Psychology, or a related field or equivalent experience (e.g., Diploma plus three years relevant casework experience).
  • Experience working with families facing complex challenges such as parenting stress, family violence, mental health, or housing instability.
  • Strong communication and planning skills, with the ability to engage families respectfully and collaboratively.
  • A current Driver's Licence, and ability to obtain a Working with Vulnerable People Registration and National Police Check.
