The Role
The successful candidate will have proven experience in a Team Lead role, ideally within the community services or NDIS sector. This role involves providing direct support to participants while overseeing the day-to-day operations of a SIL (Supported Independent Living) house. You will lead by example, manage a team of support workers, ensure high-quality service delivery, and liaise with a wide range of stakeholders. Working closely with the care team, you will help drive positive outcomes for participants and foster ongoing team development.

- Alertness and Vigilance: Remaining alert and vigilant throughout your shifts is essential for monitoring the individuals under their care and responding promptly to any changes or emergencies.
- Effective communication: effective communication is essential when following and conveying information through care documentation. You will need to follow written protocols precisely, especially in medication management, required checklists, mobility transfers, and emergency procedures. You will also need to clearly and accurately record all relevant observations, changes in the client's condition, incidents, and care provided in the appropriate documents.
- Attention to Detail: Paying close attention to detail is important for accurately documenting observations, administering medication, and ensuring that individuals receive the appropriate care and support.
- Follows Instructions: To abide by the instructions provided on how to provide care to the participant and instructions on how to complete duties.
- Problem-Solving Abilities: Support workers must be able to think quickly and make sound decisions, particularly in emergencies or situations requiring immediate attention.
Responsibilities:
- Provide individual support services and direct care for people with disability
- Assisting with manual handling: As a support worker, manual handling involves safely assisting clients with physical tasks such as transfers, repositioning, and mobility support. This includes the use of appropriate equipment like hoists or slide sheets.
- Assist with meal preparation: As a support worker, assisting with meal preparation involves helping clients plan and prepare meals that meet their dietary, medical, and cultural needs. Ensuring food safety and cleanliness is a key part of this role, as is observing and reporting any changes in appetite or eating habits.
- Documentation: Maintaining accurate records of observations, interventions, and incidents that occur during the night shift, including any changes in the individuals condition or behaviour.
- Assistance with Daily Living Activities: Providing assistance with activities of daily living such as bathing, dressing, toileting, and grooming if needed.
- Medication Administration: Administering medication according to prescribed schedules and ensuring that individuals take their medications as directed.
- Emergency Response: Being prepared to respond to emergencies such as medical crises, accidents, or behavioural disturbances, and taking appropriate action to ensure the safety of everyone involved.
- Communication: Communicating effectively with other members of the care team, including nurses, doctors, family and other team members, to ensure continuity of care and information sharing.
- Housekeeping Tasks: Performing light housekeeping tasks such as tidying up communal areas, doing laundry, and ensuring that the environment is clean and safe for the individuals under their care.
- Compliance with Policies and Procedures: Adhering to all relevant policies, procedures, and regulations governing the provision of care and support services, including maintaining confidentiality and respecting the rights and dignity of the individuals they support.
- Shift Supervision: Oversee support workers on shift to ensure duties are completed to a high standard and in line with care plans.
- Task Allocation & Monitoring: Delegate responsibilities effectively, monitor progress, and provide support where needed.
- Incident Oversight: Ensure all incidents, changes in condition, or behavioural concerns are properly reported, documented, and escalated.
- Training & Mentoring: Support the development of new staff through guidance, mentoring, and on-the-job training.
- Communication with Management: Act as a point of contact between the team and management to ensure smooth operations and timely updates.
- Quality & Safety Checks: Conduct routine checks to ensure all care practices comply with organisational policies, participant safety.
Requirements:
- Proven leadership experience in a similar Team Lead, Supervisor, or Senior role, ideally within relevant industry community services or NDIS
- Demonstrated ability to lead through change, resolve conflicts, and support staff through complex or high-pressure situations
- Previous experience in liaising with internal and external stakeholders, including reporting to senior leadership
- Ability to work independently and effectively manage time
- Experience working as a personal care support worker and as a team lead
- Effective verbal and written communication skills
- Minimum qualification or higher in Certificate III in Individual Supports /Disability Cert IV or equivalent
- Current First Aid and CPR
- NDIS Worker Screening check
