Position Objective
Assist with maintaining water and sewerage networks, facilities, processes, and treatment plants in accordance
with industry, regulatory and legislative standards.
Position Responsibilities
General Functions
- Participate in rostered on-call schedules as required and emergency after-
hours call outs if necessary.
- In the absence of the Water and Sewerage Supervisor, this position will
report to the Utilities Manager and when directed undertake agreed roles
and responsibilities required of the Supervisor.
- Other such relevant duties as required from this position which would
generally fall within the scope of this position as directed by your
accountable supervisor or the Director of Infrastructure.
- Demonstrate integrity, honesty, and the care of others in professional
relationships.
Functional Area Key Responsibilities
Water and Sewerage This position will assist in the following: :
- Undertaking a variety of tasks within one or more of the following fields of
work:
o Cleaning, repairing, clearing, replacing and extending sewerage
and water supply and pumps, reservoirs and treatment plants,
o Sampling, testing and monitoring water supply, sewerage and
effluent quality and quantity,
o Inspection and surveillance of mains, plant, structures and
buildings,
o Maintaining, servicing and operating water supply and sewerage
infrastructure, plant, equipment and property.
o Maintenance of pipework's, pumps (including pump wells) and
associated fittings at Council's pump wells and Sewerage
Treatment Plant.
o Responding to system failure emergencies.
o Worksite traffic control, placement of signs and checking of signs.
o Installation and maintenance of water meters across the LGA.
o General housekeeping at water and sewage infrastructure.
- Driving/operating, maintaining and servicing Council's plant.
- Install and replace water meters and read meters/instruments within the
network.
- Undertake relevant reporting, proactively identify/address workplace
health and safety concerns.
- Attend to and respond appropriately to Customer Service Request
Install New Water and Sewar connections.
Contribute constructively to culture of health and safety within the Council.
Key Relationships
Supervisor
• The Water and Sewerage Labourer will have an effective, respectful and
responsive relationship with the Water and Sewerage Supervisor and will
work together to ensure projects are completed ensuring compliance with
safety, regulatory and quality standards.
Team Members
- The Water and Sewerage Labourer will have a collaborative, respectful and
supportive relationship with their internal team members to carry out the
operation, maintenance and monitoring of water systems.
Community
• The Water and Sewerage Labourer will provide positive communication
with other businesses and customers and respond in a timely, respectful
manner to all Customer Service Requests.
Inherent Requirements of the Position
• Ability to meet the physical demands of this role.
- Construction White card.
- Willingness to undertake further training as required.
- This position is required to wear an approved Longreach Regional Council uniform at all times
- This position requires a Pre-Employment Medical Assessment.
- Class Unrestricted 'C' Drivers Licence.

Ability to undertake further training in Water Industry Operations
Sufficient information technology skills to use smart devices (or similar) to enter data for reporting.

Knowledge
- Working knowledge of workplace health and safety obligations under the Act.
Experience/Qualifications
- Implement Traffic Management Certificate.
- Provide First Aid Certificate.
- Plant Competency in one or all ; Forklift, Excavator, Backhoe
- Class Unrestricted 'C' Drivers Licence.
Delegations and Authorisations
Vehicle Authorisation
A vehicle authorisation for On Call Commute Use is assigned to this position. Please refer to Councils Vehicle
Policy for details of Councils guidelines on vehicle usage.
Workplace Health and Safety Obligations
All employees have a legal obligation to comply with regulatory requirements and LRC– SMS (Longreach Regional
Council's - Safety Management System) incorporating WH&S policies, procedures and work instructions. These are
introduced to ensure the health and safety of employees, contractors, visitors, volunteers, the public and the
environment and remain compliant with Industry Benchmark Standards.
Employees of Longreach Regional Council have the following responsibilities for health and safety at work.
- Take reasonable care of their own health and safety and ensure that their actions do not adversely
affect the health and safety of others.
- Comply with and follow all reasonable instructions for work health and safety (WHS) and cooperate
with all reasonable WHS policies, procedures, guidance, instructions, and directions.

interests of WHS.
- Use Longreach Regional Council's WHS risk management approach, participate in risk assessments
and assist in identifying and using control measures to eliminate or minimise WHS risks.
- Ensure safe work practices including operating and maintaining all machinery, equipment and plant
in a safe way and holding licences and training where required.
- Report any worn out or defective tools or equipment or problems with tools and equipment.
- Comply with Council's induction and training requirements.
- Participate in meetings, training, consultation and other WHS activities such as inspections, incident
investigations, and evacuation drills as required.
- Use, maintain and store personal protective equipment (PPE) in the appropriate manner.
- Be familiar with emergency and evacuation procedures for their work area and comply with
instructions given by emergency response, including emergency wardens and first aiders.
- Report all problems with undertaking work, including concerns or signs of injury, discomfort, or ill
health, immediately to their manager or supervisor.
- Report any unsafe situation, workplace hazard, injury, incident, or near-miss to their manager or
supervisor immediately.
- STOP WORK if it not safe to continue and report concerns to their manager or supervisor.
Assist in maintaining a high level of housekeeping, cleanliness, and tidiness.
Undertake tasks as required to enable continuous improvement for WHS management
