Childcare Cook

We are looking for a dynamic, enthusiastic and motivated person to join our team as the Centre Cook. The position is for 5 days a week, 9am to 1pm.

The applicant should be computer literate, be able to communicate effectively, be able to work under pressure and hold the required qualifications or willingness to obtain (see below).

Aim of the position

• Provide and prepare a variety of well-balanced nutritional meals.
• Ensure a high standard of cleanliness of the kitchen and equipment.
• To be an active team member of the Centre.
• Love for cooking nutritional meals for children

Duties include but aren't limited to:

• Plan 4-week cycles of weekly menus, summer and winter as required.
• Provide a diet for the children who have reduced sugar, no added salt, low fat, high fibre and are free from artificial colours and preservatives.
• Ensure any special diets are adequately catered for eg: vegetarian, diabetic, dairy intolerance, coeliac, children's cultural requirements. An alternative must be prepared for these children.
• Make shopping list from the weekly menus.
• Order, purchase, shop for stock as required.
• Rotate stock each week.
• To prepare fresh fruit and vegetables on a daily basis as required.
• To follow the menu.
• Prepare lunch and afternoon tea.
• Wash and wipe dishes.
• Assist with social functions & special events. Mother's Day, Easter, Christmas, & so on.
• Reduce wastage of food.

Required Qualifications

A person who holds a combination of units of competency in Safe Food Handling, Menu Planning and Nutrition can meet the requirements.

Approved courses or willingness to enrol upon employment:

FSS- Food Safety supervisor certificate

Certificate III in Children Services

1. SIT30812 Certificate III in Commercial Cookery (AQF 3) or SIT30807 Certificate III in Hospitality (Commercial Cookery)(AQF 3)

or The following previously approved courses:

1. A previous Certificate III in Hospitality (Commercial Cookery) (AQF 3) that complies with requirements of a children's services cook provided the transcript includes a unit in menu planning 4. A Statement of Attainment in NSW TAFE 3599 – Cookery in Children's Service .

Combined Menu Planning and Nutrition

*HLTNA302D Plan and evaluate meals and menus to meet recommended dietary guidelines (Previously HLTNA302B, HLTNA302C and HLTNA2A of the same name)

*SITHCCC307 – Prepare food to meet special dietary requirements (Previously SITHCCC029A Prepare foods according to dietary and cultural needs)

*SITHKOP402 – Develop menus for special dietary requirements (Previously SITHCCC035A – Develop menus to meet special dietary and cultural needs)

Combined Nutrition and Safe Food Handling

*CHCECE004 – Promote and provide healthy food and drinks (Previously CHCCN303A – Contribute to provision of nutritionally balanced food in a safe and hygienic manner and *CHCCN3C – Prepare nutritionally balanced food in a safe and hygienic manner)

Safe Food Handling – Approved Units

*HLTFS207B – Follow basic food safety practices (Previously HLTFS7A – Follow basic food safety practices or the superseded HLTFS207B Follow basic food safety practices)

*SITXFSA201 – Participate in safe food handling practices (Previously SITXFSA001A - Implement food safety procedures)

*SITXFSA101 – Use hygienic practices for food safety (Previously SITXOHS002A – Follow workplace hygiene procedures)

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $24.95 per hour

Expected hours: 15 – 25 per week
