About The Role
Our Community Planning and Development branch helps to build a strong, inclusive community where everyone has opportunities to thrive and contribute to positive social change, working with and alongside community.

The RAP Officer (Identified) is responsible for supporting the implementation of Sunshine Coast Council's Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP). The RAP is Council's formal plan to advance reconciliation in our organisation and community, providing a structured framework for meaningful, enterprise-wide action.

It is a genuine occupational requirement that the incumbent be an Aboriginal person or a Torres Strait Islander person as set out in Section 7 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991 for the purposes contained in Section 25 of that Act. Applicants to this position will be required to provide confirmation of their Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander heritage. Requesting proof of Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander heritage from applicants helps to make sure that this intention is honoured.
Key duties include -

  • Coordinate implementation of the Sunshine Coast Council Stretch Reconciliation Action Plan the Stretch RAP)
  • Engage, collaborate and partner with internal and First Nations community stakeholders to develop and deliver RAP initiatives
  • Promote and champion Council's commitment to reconciliation internally and externally
  • Contribute to strengthening the cultural capability of Council and its key stakeholders

About You
As the successful candidate, you'll have demonstrated experience working in partnership with First Nations (Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander) community and a strong understanding of First Nations cultures, histories and contemporary issues. Communication, relationship management and organisational skills will be strengths of yours, along with demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with a range of stakeholders.

You will possess strong project management and problem solving skills with demonstrated ability to develop project plans and coordinate actions to achieve outcomes.

In addition, experience in a similar role implementing a Reconciliation Action Plan will be advantageous.
