There is an exciting opportunity for qualified staff to express interest in an Occupational Therapist Level 4 position within a newly established NSW Statewide Extreme BPSD Consultation and Liaison Team. This tertiary service supports public inpatient units caring for people with extreme BPSD and operates during business hours, five days per week.

What you'll be doing

Join as a senior clinician in the development and delivery of a new tertiary clinical consultation and liaison pilot program, designed to enhance care for people with extreme behavioural and psychological symptoms of dementia (BPSD) across NSW public inpatient services. You'll play a key role in shaping service excellence and building workforce capability.

You will:

  • Provide specialist consultation and advanced clinical interventions for complex dementia presentations
  • Offer expert advice and support to clinicians across NSW to ensure safe, high-quality, person-centred care
  • Lead education, supervision and mentorship programs for Occupational Therapists and multidisciplinary teams
  • Drive continuous quality improvement and research activities in dementia and mental health care
  • Model WSLHD's values and commitment to cultural respect, patient safety and professional excellence

Essential Requirements:

  • Qualification: Degree or Diploma in Occupational Therapy recognised by the OT Board of Australia
  • Registration: Current General Registration with Occupational Therapy Board of Australia
  • Licence: NSW Drivers Licence with the ability and willingness to engage in occasional travel across the state for work purpose, including overnight stays if required.

Selection Criteria:

  • Demonstrated effective experience and knowledge in clinical practice related to assessment, intervention and evaluation of clinical outcomes when working with people experiencing severe to extreme behavioural and psychological symptoms of dementia.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide professional and clinical leadership when working with complex situations as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop, implement, monitor and evaluate best practice clinical interventions using individual and group program structures.
  • Extensive experience and demonstrated ability in building and maintaining co-operative professional and therapeutic relationships through the application of written, verbal, interpersonal, negotiation and conflict resolution skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise and mentor junior Occupational Therapists and students to enhance service delivery and capability development.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify opportunities and innovatively lead team tasks, including continuous improvement, professional development and research.
