ABOUT THE ROLE - This is a two year fixed term role

The AFL Umpires Performance Analyst is responsible for providing analytical support to the AFL and AFLW Elite Umpiring Programs, including but not limited to working in the Umpiring Matchday Analysis Team, supporting the delivery of weekly coaching and developing state-of-the-art analysis for the AFL Officiating Department.

The role will support the ARC and Umpires Performance Analysis Manager with respect to maintaining data and information systems relevant to measuring and analysing Umpires Performance for all 3 Umpiring disciplines (Field, Boundary and Goal) across the AFL and AFLW umpiring programs.

This role requires regular weekend commitments during AFL Premiership season.

A DAY IN THE LIFE OF

Key Accountabilities:

• Responsible for umpiring performance data collection and validation
• Responsible for training and quality assurance of casual Umpiring Matchday Analysis Team - Match operators
• Lead umpiring performance analysis for AFLW Field umpiring
• Conduct regular and ad-hoc analysis tasks for Field, Boundary and Goal umpiring.
• Develop reporting tools and analysis products to inform weekly, periodic coaching of umpires.
• Support the operation of the AFL Review Centre on matchdays
• Support AFL umpiring coaching team deliver weekly group coaching

OUR IDEAL TEAM MEMBER

Core Competencies:

• Degree (advanced degree preferable) in Sport Science/Sports Analytics, Mathematics or equivalent work experience
• Strong attention to detail and expertise using technology and data analysis
• Background in AFL and/or sports officiating
• Demonstrated exposure to visualisation tools (Tableau, PowerBI etc)
• Experience in data manipulation and analysis using R or Python
• Excellent problem solving and intellectual curiosity
• Ability to collaborate effectively with the team
• Effective communication skills
• Ability to perform effectively under pressure and work autonomously manage multiple projects simultaneously
• Demonstrated understanding of Australian Rules Football

Desired:

• Experience in training and developing casual staff
• Experience working in high performing/elite environments
• Experience working within professional sporting environments
• Knowledge of statistical techniques and modelling
• Experience working with athlete management systems
