What you'll do:

As a Financial Accountant based in Melbourne, you will be entrusted with end-to-end responsibility for preparing accurate financial statements in line with AASB/IFRS standards. Your day-to-day activities will involve managing complex reconciliations, supporting both month-end and year-end close processes, assisting with budgeting cycles, and delivering insightful variance analyses that empower commercial decision-making. You will collaborate closely with colleagues across different functions to ensure compliance with statutory obligations such as tax filings and audits. In addition to core accounting duties, you will have the opportunity to contribute ideas for process improvements that enhance efficiency within the finance department. Your ability to adapt quickly in a fast-evolving environment will be crucial as you participate in system enhancements designed to support ongoing business expansion. By providing timely ad-hoc analysis when required by leadership, you will help shape strategic decisions while developing your own skills within a nurturing team environment.

  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in strict accordance with Australian Accounting Standards Board (AASB) and International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), ensuring all statutory requirements are met.
  • Manage comprehensive general ledger reconciliations, accruals, and prepayments to maintain the integrity of financial data across multiple reporting periods.
  • Support the month-end and year-end closing processes by collaborating closely with internal teams to ensure accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of all financial records.
  • Assist in the preparation of budgets and forecasts while conducting detailed variance analysis to provide meaningful insights into business performance.
  • Partner with various internal stakeholders across departments to deliver clear financial insights that inform commercial decision-making and drive organisational success.
  • Maintain compliance with all statutory reporting obligations including tax filings and audit requirements by liaising with external auditors and regulatory bodies as needed.
  • Contribute actively to process improvement initiatives aimed at streamlining financial reporting procedures and enhancing overall control environments within the finance function.
  • Participate in system upgrades or enhancements by providing user feedback and supporting implementation efforts as the business continues to grow.
  • Provide ad hoc financial analysis or project support as required by senior management or the Finance Manager to address emerging business needs.
  • Champion best practices in accounting standards while fostering a culture of continuous improvement within the finance team.

What you bring:

To excel as a Financial Accountant in this thriving organisation, you will bring not only technical qualifications but also practical experience gained from similar roles within dynamic businesses. Your background should reflect deep familiarity with industry-standard accounting frameworks such as AASB/IFRS along with exposure to diverse financial systems. Beyond technical prowess, your interpersonal skills will set you apart-enabling you to build trust-based relationships across teams while providing valuable insights that support shared objectives. Your approach should be marked by reliability, empathy for colleagues' perspectives, sensitivity towards deadlines, and an unwavering commitment to accuracy. Adaptability is key: you'll thrive on variety in your workload while remaining calm under pressure during peak periods such as month-end closes or audits. Above all else, your willingness to share knowledge generously within the team-and seek out learning opportunities yourself-will ensure both personal satisfaction and collective success.

  • Hold a degree qualification in Accounting, Finance or a related discipline which underpins your technical expertise in financial management.
  • Possess CPA or CA accreditation (or be actively working towards completion), demonstrating your commitment to professional excellence within the field.
  • Bring 3-5+ years of hands-on experience in financial accounting roles ideally gained within growing or complex business environments where adaptability is essential.
  • Demonstrate strong knowledge of current accounting standards (AASB/IFRS) alongside best practice approaches for accurate reporting and compliance.
  • Exhibit advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel as well as familiarity with major financial systems such as Xero, NetSuite, SAP or MYOB Advanced; experience with these platforms is highly regarded but not mandatory.
  • Showcase excellent analytical abilities combined with effective problem-solving skills that enable you to interpret data accurately and communicate findings clearly.
  • Display exceptional attention to detail coupled with proven capability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously without compromising quality or deadlines.
  • Embody a proactive mindset that embraces change positively while remaining adaptable within fast-paced settings where requirements may shift quickly.
  • Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing when engaging stakeholders at all levels of the organisation or presenting complex information succinctly.

What sets this company apart:

This organisation stands out for its genuine commitment to employee wellbeing through flexible hybrid working arrangements that promote work-life balance without sacrificing collaboration or career progression. The company's rapid growth trajectory means there are real opportunities for advancement-your contributions will be recognised as integral to ongoing success rather than lost in bureaucracy. You'll benefit from ongoing professional development support including assistance towards CPA/CA qualifications so you can continue building your expertise alongside like-minded professionals who value teamwork over hierarchy. The workplace culture is inclusive and supportive; knowledge sharing is encouraged at every level so everyone feels empowered to contribute ideas for improvement. Modern office spaces offer comfort and convenience thanks to proximity to public transport links and local amenities-making each day enjoyable whether onsite or working remotely.
