Position Overview

The Drainer is responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing drainage systems on civil construction sites, including stormwater, sewerage, and subsoil infrastructure. The role requires technical competence, adherence to safety standards, and the ability to work effectively within a team to meet project timelines and specifications.

Key Responsibilities

  • Interpret site plans, drawings, and specifications to determine drainage layout and requirements

  • Excavate trenches and prepare ground for pipe installation using hand tools and machinery

  • Install and connect pipes, pits, culverts, and other drainage components in accordance with Australian standards and local regulations

  • Conduct testing and inspection of installed systems to ensure functionality and compliance

  • Backfill and compact trenches, restore surfaces, and ensure site cleanliness

  • Operate and maintain relevant machinery and equipment (e.g. laser levels, trenchers, compactors)

  • Identify and report any site hazards, defects, or non-compliance issues

  • Collaborate with site supervisors, engineers, and other trades to coordinate works

  • Maintain accurate records of work completed, materials used, and site conditions

  • Comply with all WHS policies, environmental controls, and company procedures

Skills and Experience

  • Proven experience in civil drainage or pipe-laying on infrastructure or subdivision projects

  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and site plans

  • Familiarity with relevant standards (e.g. AS/NZS 3500, AS/NZS 2566) and council specifications

  • Competence in using hand and power tools, trenching equipment, and laser levels

  • Strong understanding of site safety, trench stability, and confined space protocols

  • Physical fitness and ability to work in outdoor, physically demanding environments

  • White Card (Construction Induction) – mandatory

  • Relevant tickets (e.g. Excavator, Confined Space Entry, Pipe Laying) – highly regarded

  • Driver's licence – preferred
