Expression of Interest – VMO Clinical Haematology

Northern Beaches Hospital (NBH) is currently seeking expressions of interest for the position of Visiting Medical Officer, Clinical Hematology.

As a valued member of our Haematology team, you will provide expertise in the clinical management and treatment of patients in the Northern Beaches Hospital (NBH) Haematology Unit, whilst maintaining safe, effective and professional care for hematology patients within the Northern Beaches community. You will provide support and promote seamless continuity of care between inpatient and outpatient services.

Key responsibilities:

  • To provide inpatient and outpatient services and deliver clinical care to patients that is evidence based and patient centered and to provide consultation services to patients as requested by other specialties;
  • To participate in an on-call roster (including weekends and public holidays) and associated duties as required, and participate in meetings and committees as requested by the Head of Unit and/or Director of Medical Services;
  • To participate in consolidating current services and actively participate in initiatives to promote growth, enhance the reputation and help identify clinical areas for expansion in the department;
  • To provide leadership to the junior clinical staff of the service and undertake training and education of junior medical staff and registrars and ensure they are well supported;
  • Maintain professional knowledge through a commitment to ongoing learning and continuing professional development;

  • Visiting Medical Officers are required to work as part of the health care team, adhere to Healthscope By-Laws and NBH policies and procedures, participate in working groups (as required), demonstrate a commitment to quality improvement through National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) Standards & EQuIPNational, Work Health and Safety (WHS) and maintain NBH accreditation.

To be successful in the role you will:

  • Hold a medical degree (MBBS or equivalent) and be registrable with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA);

  • Hold Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP) and the Royal College of Pathologists of Australia (FRCPA), in Haematology;

  • Demonstrate recent clinical and laboratory experience as a Haematologist in roles of similar scope to the haematology service at Northern Beaches Hospital, and a commitment to developing integrated clinical and laboratory services to optimise delivery of high quality patient care;

  • Demonstrate a clear understanding of issues relating to professional practice, clinical governance, clinical ethics, clinical teaching and clinical leadership;

  • Demonstrate a high level of competence in interpersonal skills and effective communication with staff of the hospital including senior medical officers, Junior Medical staff and members of the multi-disciplinary team both medical and non-medical, and with patients and their families, as well as proficiency in the use of information technology;

  • Demonstrate a commitment to teaching, continuing education, research and quality improvement.
