Summary:

Tribal Warrior Aboriginal Corporation (Tribal Warrior) is seeking a Male Youth Worker (Mentor) to join our newly implemented Glebe Clean Slate Without Prejudice (CSWP) Program. The Male Mentor will promote the social, emotional, intellectual, and physical development of young Aboriginal people in the local community by delivering programs and services that support their personal growth. The role works collaboratively with other professionals, community organisations, and parents/guardians to provide a safe, engaging, and healthy environment for our youth.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement activities and programs that meet the physical, emotional, social, and intellectual needs of local Aboriginal youth.
  • Provide support, guidance, and SEWB support to youth on issues affecting their lives, such as relationships, school, career aspirations, and health.
  • Work with other professionals, community organisations, and parents/guardians to provide a safe, engaging, and healthy environment for youth.
  • Advocate for the rights and well-being of young people, and communicate with government agencies, schools, and social services to secure resources and support for youth programs.
  • Encourage positive relationships and peer support among youth and supervise activities to ensure their safety.
  • Help youth develop leadership skills and promote their participation in community activities and events.
  • Maintain accurate records of activities, attendance, and progress of youth, and prepare reports as required.
  • Attend team meetings, community events, and training sessions as required.
  • Follow direction and take ownership of assigned tasks and outcomes, ensuring adherence to organisational policies, procedures, and compliance requirements (e.g., child safety, privacy, WHS, and record-keeping).

Qualifications:

  • Tertiary qualifications in social work, community services, psychology, counselling or a related discipline are preferred.
  • Aboriginality is a desirable criterion for this role to support culturally safe, community‑led service delivery and is consistent with applicable legislative exemptions.
  • A minimum of two years of experience in working with youth in a community-based setting.
  • Must have knowledge of child development, adolescent counseling, and community resources.
  • Must possess excellent communication, problem-solving, and organisational skills.
  • Must have the ability to work effectively with diverse groups of youth and families.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle.
  • The successful candidate must be able to pass a criminal background check and working with children's check.
