Adelaide Metro Operations (AMO) are the proud maintainers of the Adelaide Tram Network and are responsible for the safe, reliable, and efficient delivery of Adelaide's tram services — maintaining both rolling stock and infrastructure assets under a long-term maintenance-only contract. We are a dedicated team committed to operational excellence, compliance, and innovation in public transport delivery.
We are seeking an experienced and strategically minded Commercial Manager to lead AMO's commercial and procurement functions, ensuring robust governance, value-for-money outcomes, and sustainable business performance.
About the Role
Reporting to the General Manager and working closely with the Senior Leadership Team, the Commercial Manager will lead the development and execution of AMO's commercial strategies. The role oversees procurement, contract management, supplier engagement, and commercial governance across all maintenance and project activities.
This role plays a pivotal role in safeguarding AMO's contractual interests, managing financial and operational risks, and identifying opportunities to optimise commercial outcomes. This position is key to ensuring that AMO continues to deliver safe, cost-effective, and reliable services to the people of Adelaide.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and implement commercial and procurement strategies aligned with AMO's business objectives.
- Lead contract negotiations with clients, suppliers, and subcontractors, ensuring fair and effective risk allocation.
- Oversee pricing and cost modelling for tenders, projects, and contract variations.
- Manage commercial performance, reporting, and risk mitigation frameworks.
- Drive best practice in procurement planning, supplier engagement, and inventory management.
- Provide strategic commercial advice to senior leaders and ensure compliance with governance frameworks.
- Foster collaborative relationships with internal stakeholders, clients, and external partners.
We are looking for a commercially astute professional with the ability to balance strategic insight and operational delivery, and someone who thrives in complex, contract-based environments and can confidently lead negotiations, manage risk, and influence decisions at an executive level.
To be successful, you will have:
- Tertiary qualifications in Commerce, Law, Business, Engineering, or a related discipline.
- 5+ years' experience in commercial management, contract administration, or procurement, ideally within rail, infrastructure, transport, or maintenance environments.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and implement commercial strategies that deliver measurable outcomes.
- Strong negotiation, analytical, and stakeholder engagement skills.
- A sound understanding of financial modelling, cost control, and risk management.
- Proven leadership capability and commitment to governance, compliance, and continuous improvement.
