Primary objective
As part of the Training and Research Support team, contribute to the ongoing development of best practice by providing expert
training and literature searching to support patient care, research, and educational activities. The Health Librarian is part of the
team that delivers services NT Health wide.
Context statement
This position reports to the Manager Training and Research Support and works in collaboration with other library staff as well as
NT Health staff requesting Library Services.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Provide information required by departmental staff to support patient care, research projects, policy and guideline writing and
clinical governance.
2. Combine expert literature searching and critical appraisal skills with knowledge of local resources and local issues in
departmental subject areas, to provide evidence for clinical decision-making.
3. Contribute to the continuing education of all staff by participating in teaching activities and delivering health information literacy
workshops.
4. Collaborate in the evaluation and development of the library's information resources and collections to meet the learning,
research, and clinical needs of NT Health staff.
5. There will be some travel to the NT Health Libraries based in regional locations.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Degree or postgraduate diploma in library and information science recognised by the Australian Library and Information
Association (ALIA) and/or eligible for Associate Membership of ALIA.
2. Proven experience in the delivery of professional research and information services, contemporary knowledge of scholarly
resources in all formats and collection development principles and practices.
3. Advanced digital literacy skills and experience in searching a wide range of electronic resources and research databases.
4. Proven experience in delivering training programs in areas such as information literacy and research skills.
5. Knowledge of the research process to support research outputs of clients from an academic, health or professional background.
- Demonstrated strong customer focus and experience in delivering library services in an online environment, including the use
of desktop collaboration tools.
7. Excellent written and verbal communication skills with demonstrated ability to engage and collaborate with professionals and
researchers.
8. An ability to interact effectively with people of diverse cultures.
Desirable
1. Experience in a health services or academic librarian role.
