The Role
The focus of the Stormwater and Floodplain engineer is to support the Infrastructure Programs Coordinator in all aspects of the investigation, assessment, design review, construction, hand over and ongoing maintenance of stormwater, floodplain and coastal related assets and projects across the Waverley Council geographic area
The role is responsible for providing expert advice on stormwater, floodplain and coastal management issues. This will involve assessing development plans and issuing compliance certificates for private stormwater infrastructure upgrades across the LGA. It will involve the investigation, assessment and resolution of stormwater, floodplain and coastal related issues and the inspection of assets and their condition onsite whilst working collaboratively with residents, developers and contractors to attain best practice outcomes.
Responsibilities include the development of project briefs, budgets, assessment of drawings for works packages, and procuring consultant services. They will also include risk mitigation and oversight of development activity in line with Council standards and Engineering Industry best standards. The primary purpose of the role is to:
- Provide expert advice on stormwater, floodplain and coastal related issues to internal and external stakeholders (in the form of stormwater referral assessments, compliance certificate assessments, investigation and resolution of flooding related issues, and management of stormwater, stormwater harvesting and coastal management assets.
- Design resilient solutions and manage stormwater for sustainable communities.
- Draft project briefs for capital works, flood and coastal studies and risk management plans.

About you
- Tertiary qualifications in Civil Engineering. (Qualifications in Environmental Engineering will be considered subject to Civil experience).
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience in stormwater, floodplain and coastal management.
- A strong foundation in civil engineering principles and practices.
- Excellent communication skills including written and oral and the ability to relate well to internal and external clients.
- Ability to work within and to foster team cooperation and achievement.
- Knowledge of Federal, State and Local Government, Australian Rainfall & Runoff, and associated guidelines and practices.
- Competent in the use of storm water (quantity and quality) design and analysis software.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office computer applications.
- A current Class C Driver's Licence
Desirable:
- Post Graduate Engineering or management qualifications,
- Project Management: The ability to manage projects from inception to completion. You should be skilled in developing project plans, setting milestones, and coordinating with various stakeholders to ensure projects are delivered on time and within budget.
- Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities will help you assess, conduct feasibility studies, and propose appropriate solutions,
- Continuous Learning: Keeping up with the latest industry trends, technological advancements, and best practices. Actively seeking professional development opportunities and staying informed about emerging technologies will enhance your skills and expertise.
