Animal Welfare Advisory Committee of Western Australia Members and Chairperson

The Western Australian Animal Welfare Advisory Committee (AWAC) is established to provide advice to the Minister for Agriculture and Food on animal welfare related matters.
Members of the AWAC will have demonstrated knowledge and expertise relevant to animal welfare.
Members will be appointed for an initial term of two years after which they may be eligible for reappointment. The Minister will select a chairperson. Remuneration for eligible members will be provided in accordance with Public Sector Commission guidelines.

Guidelines for expressions of interestExpressions of interest must include a two-page (maximum) synopsis of the applicant's skills and experience in relation to the selection criteria below, plus a two-page (maximum) curriculum vitae (CV). The CV must include:
- Full name (including title)
- Contact details (postal address, telephone number, email address)
- Current employer and position or employment status
- Relevant work history and/or voluntary involvement
- Qualifications/training
- Other committee/board experience (list all current positions)
- Current contact details of two (2) referees.
The Committee will be comprised of people with knowledge, experience and/or expertise in one or more of the following areas:
- Animal science, animal welfare science or veterinary science
- Legislation and public policy
- Bioethics
- The care and management of animals
- Wildlife management and conservation, including in relation to native species
- The use of animals for scientific purposes; and
- Community education and raising public awareness

Selection criteriaGeneral criteria applying to the selection of members will include:
- Demonstrated ability for strategic thinking and planning, including decision-making based on relevant evidence, science or research
- Knowledge of Western Australia's animal welfare statutory and policy arrangements
- Demonstrated understanding of animal welfare in Western Australia in respect of primary industries, the community, environment or conservation
- Understanding of government processes and public policy development
- Ability and willingness to commit adequate time to AWAC's business and actively contribute to its business
