About the job

SA Water are currently seeking dedicated casual Seasonal Reservoir Rangers to assist in the overall management of our reservoirs. You will become positive SA Water brand ambassador, working collaboratively with the team, actively participating in recreational access management, conservation and land management works, dam operations and inspections, and reservoir infrastructure maintenance tasks dependent on the season and daily requirements.

2 opportunities are available immediately: with the roles based at the Happy Valley Reservoir.

About the Person

The ideal candidate for this position will have hands on park and/or natural resources management or equivalent demonstrated operational knowledge. You will be a strong team player who shows initiative and can also be agile to work more autonomously when required. A key element of this role is interacting with the public. It is vital you are considerate of the diversity within our community, comfortable in conversing, and able to demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills.

Additional advantageous skills and qualifications include the following:

  • Knowledge of environmental and water quality principles
  • Weed control/spraying certificate, boat licence and white card
  • Conservation and Ecosystem Management
  • An understanding of operations and maintenance of water storage assets and supply systems

Your responsibilities for this opportunity

Fostering trust with our people, customers and community by providing expert advice and service that ensure we effectively communicate and engage audiences with our business strategy and its delivery across South Australia, every day.

You will:

  • Promote and support recreational access to reservoir reserves by providing high-quality information to enhance visitor experiences.
  • Assist with the maintenance and operation of facilities that support public access to reservoir sites.
  • Deliver educational content on the importance of reservoirs for drinking water and environmental conservation.
  • Support and supervise volunteer and community programs that promote recreational access and land management.
  • Undertake conservation, land management, and operational activities in reservoir reserve areas, ensuring safety and water quality standards are met.

Your success in this role will come from:

  • Possess a passion for environment, conservation, and connecting people to nature.
  • A willingness to learn, show good initiative, and the capacity to work with minimal supervision.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills, with a willingness to speak to groups and other reservoir visitors.
  • Experience in operational environments which may include maintenance activities.
  • Have completed, or are in the process of completing, a qualification in Environmental Management, Natural Resources Management, or other related discipline (desirable)

Special Conditions:

  • The role entails working varying hours, including after-hours and weekends as per rostered schedules.
  • A valid Class C driver's license is essential for fulfilling responsibilities associated with the position.
