Do you enjoy learning new skills and collaborating with a highly experienced multidisciplinary team?
Join us in making a meaningful impact in community safety and resilience through innovative and collaborative approaches.
Your role
The Case Officer plays a critical role in preventing violent extremism by providing tailored case management support to individuals who may be at risk. This includes engaging directly with vulnerable individuals, assessing their needs, and coordinating targeted interventions through the Engagement and Support Unit (ESU). The role also involves building strong relationships with key stakeholders, including law enforcement, community organisations, and service providers, to ensure a collaborative and effective response to complex cases.
This role offers a unique and meaningful opportunity to make a tangible difference in community safety and social cohesion. As a Case Officer, you will be at the forefront of early intervention strategies, working with a dedicated team to positively influence the lives of individuals and reduce the risk of radicalisation. You'll gain valuable experience in multi-agency collaboration, complex case management, and community engagement, all within a high-impact, socially responsible role that contributes directly to public safety and wellbeing.
What you'll do
As a National Step Together Case Worker within the Countering Violent Extremism (CVE) Engagement Support Unit (ESU), you will play a vital role in supporting the public through the National Step Together Helpline. Your primary responsibility will be to educate and assist the public in understanding the factors that contribute to vulnerability to violent extremism. You will deliver effective case management and support strategies nationally via the Step Together Helpline and digital services.. Using a non-judgemental, client-centred approach, you will assist individuals in achieving their personal goals, contribute to ongoing professional development, and build your skills in managing complex cases.
The NSW Department of Communities and Justice (DCJ) offers a dynamic and supportive environment for career growth. We seek adaptable case workers, preferably with social work backgrounds, who are committed to supporting individuals across all age groups through evidence-based strategies. Within DCJ, the CVE Engagement and Support Unit (ESU) is a nationally and internationally recognised multidisciplinary team focused on early intervention to prevent violent extremism. ESU delivers key programs such as the Engagement and Support Program (ESP) and the National Step Together Helpline, providing proactive support to individuals, families, and communities to address concerns before they escalate.
What we're looking for
In addition to the essential requirements outlined in the role description, success in this role requires you to be confident, curious, and resilient. As a Case Worker, you will need to demonstrate the following:
- Tertiary qualifications in a relevant field (e.g. Social Work, Psychology, Counselling, Criminology, or related disciplines)
- Postgraduate experience in case management or a similar client-focused role
- Experience working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary environment, or the ability to do so effectively
- A strong commitment to professional development, quality improvement, and evidence-based practice
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to document client interactions, consult with stakeholders, and maintain effective professional relationships
- A willingness to develop a deep understanding of the vulnerabilities, risks, and protective factors associated with violent extremism and the role of disengagement
- Australian citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain a National Security Clearance (NV1)
- A current driver's licence and willingness to travel regularly within NSW
- Willingness to undertake shift work on a rotating roster as required
