Tomaree Public School is a coastal school located at Salamander Bay in the picturesque area of Port Stephens. Tomaree Public School has strong connections with the Port Stephens network of schools and is in the unique position of sharing a site with Tomaree High School, being part of the Tomaree Education Centre. Tomaree Public School has a strong student leadership team consisting of 10 Student Executive members, a Junior AECG and 25 Class Representatives. Our focus on HPGE ensures we provide opportunities in all the domains of High Potential and Gifted Education, to enable students to continue to develop and build upon their skills, whilst also expanding opportunities within each domain for newly identified students. Dedicated and passionate staff ensure our students enjoy a wealth of cultural, sporting, creative and educational opportunities within and beyond Tomaree Public School.
Tomaree Public School has a current student enrolment of 307 students. We have 12 mainstream classes and 3 MC support classes. Tomaree Public School proudly sits on Worimi land and we enjoy the support and guidance of the Youyoong AECG. In 2025, 50 of Tomaree students identify as either Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander. Our school values the rich and diverse multicultural heritage of our staff and students. Teaching and learning at Tomaree Public School continues to be informed by the Explicit Teaching research base valued by the Department of Education's curriculum reform. Planning, programming, assessment, feedback and using data for teaching and learning are areas that continue to be a focus for our school. The monitoring of student performance data will determine areas of need at an individual and whole-school level to ensure that there is ongoing student and school-wide improvement. Tomaree Public School is working explicitly on improving the skills and understanding of all students in literacy and numeracy. Selection CriteriaApproval to teach
Approved to teach primary library or currently undertaking or currently enrolled in Teacher Librarian qualifications approved by the NSW Department of Education, with the demonstrated ability to develop and deliver high-quality teaching and learning programs.
Highly developed communication, organisation and interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with teachers, support staff, parents and the wider school community, and contribute positively to an equitable and culturally sensitive whole school culture.
Outstanding ability to promote and manage a library that functions as a learning hub for the school and engages, inspires and extends all learners.
Demonstrated skills to work flexibly and collaboratively with staff and students to design and deliver inclusive, engaging and research-based teaching and learning practices across all Key Learning Areas, including the authentic integration of digital technologies and resources.
An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
