Role description:
Arcadis has an opportunity for a Combined Services Route (CSR) Engineer to join our National Rail Business Unit in Sydney or Melbourne. This role is required to support our National Track & Civil team, delivering a significant pipeline of work across projects nationally.
The opportunity is for a professional engineer who ability to work well in a team environment as well as being a self-starter able to work unsupervised. You have a passion to drive innovation, creativity, and process improvements in CSR design solutions;
Some of the core responsibilities of the successful candidate will include:
- Developing CSR designs from concept design through to detailed design and construction support.
- Manage the integration and coordination of CSR design whilst proactively collaborate with other disciplines in multidisciplinary project.
- Apply project management principles in carrying out assigned tasks and accomplishing project deliverables in a timely manner.
Role accountabilities:
Key accountabilities for the role include:
- Delivery of CSR designs, from concept through detailed design and construction support;
- Ensure that CSR design development meets relevant technical standards and the requirements of the client;
- Proactively collaborate with other disciplines, project manager, client and stakeholders to produce a coordinated high quality design that meets the required standard;
- Promote the adoption of digital tools, sustainable design principles, and innovative construction methods for CSR delivery;
- Provide high quality engineering design and consultancy services to the rail industry in Australia ensuring compliance with safety, quality, and regulatory requirements; and
- Building and maintaining effective relationships with internal and external client and stakeholders.
Qualification & Experience:
First and foremost, you share our passion for improving the quality of life and want to be part of city-shaping projects that change the way we move around our cities. You are a registered or accredited professional with extensive experience in major project delivery and will come to us with:
Essential:
Tertiary Qualifications in Engineering.
- Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) or actively working towards accreditation (Engineers Australia, IEAust).
- Minimum 4 years' experience in CSR design or utility route engineering within the rail sector.
- Sound understanding of relevant Australian rail standards and regulations (ARTC, Sydney Trains, V/Line, MTM, Queensland Rail, AS/NZS standards).
- Proficiency in CAD (AutoCAD, MicroStation) and BIM platforms.
- Demonstrated ability to manage stakeholder relationships and deliver multidisciplinary rail projects.
- Strong verbal and written communication, analytical, and organisational skills.
Expertise in ensuring high-quality delivery of design drawings, models, design reports and technical advice.
Desirable:
Experience delivering major Australian rail infrastructure projects (e.g., Inland Rail, Sydney Metro, Melbourne Metro Tunnel, Sydney Trains).
- Designer Competencies across Australia including ARTC, MTM, VLine
- Familiarity with digital engineering, data management, and sustainability frameworks.
- Relevant rail industry competencies, such as RIW (Rail Industry Worker) card, track safety awareness, or project-specific certifications.
- Experience with environmental and sustainability assessments, and innovative CSR design solutions.
