Job Description

  • Exciting opportunity within our Data Domain
  • Working on challenging and exciting initiatives
  • Permanent role working at our Mascot office (hybrid working options available)

As a
Senior Analytics Engineer
at Qantas, you'll do more than just build dashboards - you will work with the business to create compelling narratives that empower our teams to make smarter decisions with analytics and data-driven insights with a best-in-class user experience. Leveraging your deep technical expertise in SQL, Power BI, Python and data modelling, you will work hands-on across the end-to-end lifecycle of data insights, from data preparation through to the implementation of visuals that effectively convey underlying insights. With a product mindset, you'll take ownership of the solutions you develop, continuously supporting and optimising them based on user feedback and evolving business needs. You will design inspiring solutions and help educate our analytics community and our broader business about the power of storytelling with data.

As a senior team member, you will work with the data engineers, data architect, delivery lead and product owners to champion best practices across the analytics landscape. If you thrive at the intersection of creativity and technical excellence, we want you to help shape the way we share, talk about and engage with data.

Key Responsibilities

  • Engaging with stakeholders and internal customers to understand their business questions, along with the types of data, analytics and visualisations that might best answer these.
  • Engaging with IT and different business stakeholders to identify relevant data sources and negotiating access to that data, complying with data governance and related standards as required.
  • Integrating different data sources into a unified data model (typically dimensional / 'star schema')
  • Undertaking exploration and analysis of data using SQL and Python.
  • Visualising data in Power BI using visualisation best practices, following company standards in methodology, branding and 'look and feel'.
  • Developing dashboards and analytics that provide actionable insights to the business through well-crafted story telling.
  • Working with the business on action plans to leverage identified insights. Providing analysis of the performance of different insight driven initiatives.
  • Educating the business on the value of data and data driven insights.
  • Mentoring your fellow team members and the business on the most effective use of Power BI, leveraging the latest product features.
  • Keeping up to date with, communicating and applying state-of-the-art industry best practises in analytics and visualisation.

You'll Have

  • 5+ years' experience in end-to-end data analytics: data sourcing, data exploration & preparation, analysis, visualisation, insight generation and evaluation of suggested initiatives.
  • Expert in SQL, dimensional modelling (star schemas), Power BI and visualisation best practise
  • Expert in data storytelling techniques and designing dashboards.
  • Strong understanding of data quality, data privacy, security and compliance standards (e.g. APPs, GDPR, PCI-DSS)
  • Experienced with Python and associated libraries for analysis (Pandas, matplotlib, etc).
  • Experience working with machine learning/AI models developed by data scientists and embedding model outputs in analytical work, including Power BI dashboards
  • Experience bringing analytical products (dashboards, analysis, etc) from development through to production in an iterative lifecycle, ensuring products continue to function seamlessly with appropriate maintenance post-production
  • Experience with mentoring less experienced team members as well as your internal customers on best practices in data analytics and visualisation
  • Experience working in agile teams and collaborating with cross-functional teams.
  • Strong stakeholder management & engagement skills
  • Excellent presentation, written and verbal communication skills
  • Eager to continuously improve and drive your team's overall performance
