Company Description

We are SERIQ Technologies -- a Melbourne-based
consumer tech company. Our focus is on smart wearables for pets, with an aim to assist pet owners in monitoring and enhancing the health and wellbeing of their companions.

We are building in-house wearable hardware and firmware, and plan to release the devices into the field in small numbers in 2026. The wearables would be supported by our upcoming cloud platform (based on AWS IoT or equivalent) and mobile apps, enabling pet owners to track the health, location and other information regarding their pets.

Role Description

The Firmware Engineer position is a full-time, on-site role based in Glen Waverley, VIC. The engineer will be responsible for leading and executing the following activities:

(a) Design and build production-ready firmware for wearables, utilizing FreeRTOS / Zephyr RTOS / equivalent.

(b) Execute proof-of-concept exercises, translate published research into "code", implement signal-processing schemes -- including "basics" (e.g., first-order filters) and "advanced stuff" (e.g., multi-layered neural networks, recursive least-squares algorithms where suitable).

(c) Implement third-party device drivers for wireless communication modules, sensors and actuator on-board. E.g., LTE-M/NB-IoT, GPS sensors, accelerometers,
mmWave-based motion sensors, microphones, haptic actuators etc.

(d) Implement industry-standard features such as IoT cloud connectivity, mobile app connectivity, OTA updates etc.

(e) Develop "test codes" for automating in-production wearable testing / quality control.

(f) Troubleshoot the firmware on customer wearables, develop and deploy OTA patches for fixing bugs

Qualifications

  • Must: Strong theoretical / mathematical foundation, particularly in control systems / signal processing, linear algebra
  • Must: Experience of having built firmware running on ARM-based MCUs

    Experience of having implemented a closed-loop control scheme or a neural network in firmware
