Position Title: Diocesan and Parish Support Accountant

Location: Catholic Chancery Office, Armidale

Position Objective

The position of Diocesan and Parish Support Accountant provides services within the Diocesan and Parish Support Team at the Catholic Diocese of Armidale, in the form of accounting, administration and bookkeeping support and consulting in various areas.

The Diocesan and Parish Support Accountant will work within a small but dynamic team engaging with a variety of stakeholders. The role will support the optimal functioning of the financial reporting and associated obligations for Parishes across the Diocese as well as the Diocese itself.

Responsibilities

Reporting to the Diocesan Financial Administrator the Diocesan and Parish Support Accountant key responsibilities are:

  • Assisting with the following:

  • coding and reconciling of accounts

  • BAS preparation
  • interim financial reporting
  • financial statement and budget preparation
  • payroll preparation
  • accounts payable and receivable functions
  • motor vehicle fleet accounting

  • Any other special projects as directed from time to time, particularly relating to financial analysis.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience
  • Preference for degree qualification in accounting
  • Sound working knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite of products, particularly Microsoft Excel (working knowledge of macros and pivot tables highly regarded)
  • Experience with the Xero accounting program, working knowledge with other recognized programs
  • Monthly accounts coding, bank reconciliation and BAS preparation experience (experience with NFP's highly regarded)
  • Preference for someone with payroll processing experience
  • Well-developed communication skills including careful consideration of email content, wording, grammar and how it is perceived
  • Ability to assist on financial projects and be innovative in approach to process improvements
  • Time and priority task management.

  • Junior accountants with experience in a few of the areas required
  • Experienced accountants
  • Both full-time and part-time working arrangements subject to mutual agreement.
