This advertisement is for an exciting new role at Werribee Mercy Hospital maternity department. We seek an experienced midwife with a compassionate heart seeking a fulfilling career. The role is for an Enhanced Midwifery Navigator. It is a specialised role within maternity services that provides compassionate support and practical assistance to individuals and families experiencing perinatal loss and/or socially complex care needs during pregnancy, birth, and the postpartum period. They guide families and staff through the grieving process, connect them with appropriate resources, and help navigate the healthcare system to ensure they receive the best possible care.
About the opportunity
Assist in the establishment of this new service.
Strengthen and create relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
Collaborate in policy and guideline development
Coordinate and lead multidisciplinary team meetings
Work in partnership with the education team to create and build resources for families
Provide emotional support, guidance, and practical assistance to families experiencing perinatal loss, including stillbirth, miscarriage, and infant death. This involves active listening, understanding their needs, and helping them navigate grief and loss.
Empower families facing complex social conditions during pregnancy and postpartum. This may include, mental health issues, or other challenges that require coordinated care.
Guide families through the healthcare system, helping them understand procedures, access appointments, and receive necessary care.
Advocate for families' needs and rights within the healthcare setting, ensuring they receive respectful and timely care.
Work closely with other healthcare professionals, such as obstetricians, midwives, social workers, Aboriginal Liaison Officers and pastoral care, to provide coordinated care.
Provide education and training to other healthcare professionals.

To thrive in this role, you will have:
Bachelor of Nursing and Midwifery OR Bachelor of Midwifery
Current registration with AHPRA
A post graduate qualification or currently enrolled in a post graduate program in a relevant area of study (desirable)
Excellent clinical, time management, organisational and communication skills, with the ability to adapt and problem solve.
Proven leadership and mentorship capabilities.
Compassionate, sensitive, flexible and positive approach to effective family-centred care and management.
The ability to nurture friendly, culturally safe and respectful relationships and contribute to a collaborative team environment.
Experience in a similar role or with women experiencing social complexities or bereavement during pregnancy and birth.
You will also be required to provide evidence of, or in the process of obtaining:
A current Police Record Check and Working with Children Check.
Proof of current influenza vaccination and other vaccination status consistent with public health orders.
