North Melbourne, Victoria, Australia Ascent Vision Technologies Australia Full time $60,000 - $80,000 per year

The Company:

AVT Australia, a CACI company, specialises in the design and production of lightweight camera gimbal systems. Our world-leading camera systems operate in a range of defence and commercial applications including airborne surveillance, ground-based counter drone systems, maritime, and ground vehicle systems.

Our rapidly expanding Production team is built around a group of talented individuals and leadership.

Our office is located within walking distance of Queen Victoria Markets. We offer great working conditions, fun atmosphere, and believe in a positive work-life balance. Simply put, we believe your job should add meaning to your life, not consume it

About the role:

We are looking to grow our Production team.

Do you think you could help us with:

Incoming inspection. This encompasses detailed measurement of mechanical parts, programming and inspecting electronic PCBs. Inspection of Infrared and Visible Spectrum lenses and camera sensors. We require great attention to detail and skills which span across more than one technical field.

Building camera systems. This is not a typical assembly role. The systems we build are designed for critical applications, and in many instances, they save and protect lives. The products we design are not simple to build and require a high degree of skill to be completed successfully.

Each technical role has its primary duties. All staff at our facility are exposed to multiple specialised roles.  We cross train our team so that they can occasionally assist outside of their primary role.

Considering the complexity of our products, we have no expectations of previous experience, all the skills required are taught as part of your employment at AVTA.

Technicians will sometimes work closely with the engineering team, where they can learn new skills and acquire specialised knowledge relating to our cameras and other camera systems.

Primarily the position requires someone with a keen interest in technology. Although almost all the skills you will acquire as part of your training, it is beneficial for you to have some fundamental understanding or interests. Skills could come from the following experiences:

  • An understanding or interest in how photographic cameras work, both digital and analogue. Repair or rebuild vintage cameras as a hobby.
  • Have built your own PC, with custom cooling, RGB lighting, superb cable management, bonus if you modified the case, cooler or cable lengths and overclocked your system.
  • When buying electronic components, you make decisions on specifications of those components rather than just reviews.
  • You have dabbled with Linux operating systems, even user-friendly versions like Ubuntu.
  • Own a 3D printer and have experience making your own parts, bonus if you have built or modified your own printer or had to repair it.
  • Build and fly your own FPV drones.
  • Designed your own parts using 3D modelling software like Fusion 360 or Solidworks.
  • Built and or designed any type of electromechanical device.
  • A tinkerer by nature, you have the technical curiosity to pull apart broken devices and determine their cause of failure, then put them back together. (Without parts left over)
  • Any precision tasks that require extreme concentration and pre-process setup, for example watch repair or reloading precision ammunition.
  • An active member of a maker space.
  • You have a small workshop at home, and it's well maintained and organised.

Responsibilities:

Your responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

  • Assembly of mechanical parts
  • Assembly of electronic parts
  • Uploading and configuring assemblies using software
  • Inspect incoming parts.
  • Collect and assemble build kits.
  • Everyday housekeeping tasks, such as keeping the facility clean and tidy.
  • Carefully follow processes and procedures
  • Report on issues, processes, and procedures, giving feedback and suggestions for continuous improvement.
  • Keeping track of time spent on tasks.

Essential qualifications and experience:

  • Minimum of year 12 education or equivalent – technical elective subjects preferred.
  • Ability to work to tight deadlines, in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and the ability to focus on specific tasks.
  • Organised, efficient, and driven to succeed.
  • Familiar with modern computers and software.

Advantageous experience:

  • Any technical qualifications.
  • IPC 7711/21
  • IPC/WHMA 620
  • IPC/WHMA 610
  • Understanding of ESD prevention.
  • Have worked under an ISO or AS quality standard.
  • Can read or interpret technical drawings.

Benefits:

  • Exciting and enthusiastic workplace
  • Strong company culture
  • Working as part of talented, highly capable, and technology focused team
  • Industry recognised training
