ROLE: AI Staff Engineer

LOCATION: Sydney, Melbourne

Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Staff AI Engineer to lead the design, development, and deployment of agentic AI systems and Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) pipelines. This role combines technical leadership, hands-on engineering, and strategic decision-making.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead design and architecture of RAG and agentic AI systems.
  • Drive production deployment and scaling of AI models across services.
  • Evaluate, select, and integrate advanced AI frameworks and models.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams on AI strategy, innovation, and governance.
  • Mentor mid-level and junior engineers, reviewing code and modelling approaches.
  • Define best practices for model monitoring, reliability, and performance.
  • Act as a technical authority for AI initiatives within the organization.

Core Requirements

  • RAG & Agent Development Experience: Minimum 2+ years of hands-on experience in RAG systems and agentic AI development.
  • Framework Expertise: Broad understanding of agentic development frameworks (any model).
  • Hands-On Coding: Extensive coding experience in Python (2–3 years minimum) and other relevant languages for AI pipelines.
  • Production Experience: Proven ability to take AI models from prototype to production and maintain them in production environments.
  • Cloud & MLOps Skills: Strong proficiency with AWS Bedrock and other cloud ML services, including model serving, monitoring, and scaling.
  • Leadership Experience: Experience leading AI teams or initiatives, mentoring engineers, and influencing technical decisions.
