Umwelt is looking for an experienced, collaborative, and delivery-focused Principal Aboriginal Heritage Consultant to join our growing Heritage team in NSW. This role can be based in Newcastle, the Central Coast or Sydney.
As a Principal Aboriginal Heritage Consultant, you will have significant experience and expertise in Aboriginal Heritage management and conservation. This role involves overseeing, leading and working with a team to deliver Aboriginal heritage related projects, providing strategic guidance, and ensuring the quality of deliverable.
Key responsibilities:
- Leading the delivery of heritage projects. This includes overseeing project teams, planning and delivery of fieldwork, managing budgets and timelines, and ensuring that project goals are met
- Engaging with clients to understand their project requirements, provide expert advice on heritage and archaeological matters, and develop tailored solutions that meet client needs while adhering to regulatory requirements and best practices
- Effective stakeholder engagement with both internal and external stakeholders relevant to the role
- Presenting technical findings and relaying information to non-technical persons, including clients and community
- Well-versed in heritage and archaeological legislation, regulations, and guidelines, and apply this knowledge to assess significance, develop conservation strategies, and mitigate impacts on heritage and archaeological values
- Provide mentorship and guidance to junior staff, helping to develop their skills and expertise in heritage and archaeological management and consultancy
The ideal candidate this role will have strong stakeholder engagement, experience in providing advice and advocacy on heritage and archaeological matters to clients, government agencies and community groups, as well as the ability to prepare and review high quality technical reports.
Key Requirements:
- A degree in Cultural Heritage Management, Archaeology, Anthropology or related field
- A minimum of 10+ years of experience
- Preferably experience in a consultancy environment
- Knowledge of relevant State and Commonwealth heritage legislation and associated regulations and guidelines, with experience in NSW highly regarded
- Demonstrate leadership experience, including project management and team coordination
- Interest and experience with client relationship management
- Australian Drivers licence (ideally with 4WD experience)
