So, what's the role?
The System Engineer is responsible for ensuring the delivery, performance, and integrity of Bank First's core banking systems. You'll play a key role in maintaining and optimising our systems, leading upgrades, managing integrations, and ensuring the smooth operation of technology that supports our Members every day.

This is a hands-on, high-impact role that combines deep technical expertise with collaboration across digital, data, and engineering teams to drive secure, efficient, and innovative banking solutions.

In a Typical Day You Will Get Involved In

• Owning the delivery of system upgrades and new product releases, ensuring a seamless experience for end users
• Collaborating with technical experts and product owners to deliver enhancements, integrations, and security improvements
• Acting as a technical contact for key banking system vendors
• Maintaining and developing relevant databases to ensure system performance, integrity, and security
• Working in an agile environment with spring squads
• Diagnosing and resolving system incidents and queries efficiently as an escalation point for complex issues
• Working within architecture guardrails to evaluate solutions and identify integration opportunities using APIs and microservices
• Embedding security and privacy throughout the development lifecycle
• Staying current with emerging technologies to drive innovation and enhance system performance.

This role is on a fixed term basis and hybrid working based in Melbourne, attending the Hawthorn East office 2 days per week.

About You
You're a technically skilled problem solver who thrives on turning complex challenges into streamlined solutions. You take pride in ensuring systems perform at their best, and you're passionate about using technology to make banking simpler, safer, and smarter for our Members.

You Will Come Equipped With

• Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field
• Experience supporting and developing core banking applications and systems
• Proven ability to collaborate with diverse technical and business teams to deliver successful outcomes
• Strong technical skills across programming languages such as Python, Ruby, PHP, Java, C#, .Net, ASP, and .Net APIs
• Experience with MS-SQL, MongoDB, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and Azure environments
• Familiarity with automation tools such as Power Automate, UI Path, and PowerShell
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and stakeholder management skills.
