We are looking for an experienced
Lead Data Modeller (Microsoft SQL Server)
for a long-term contract with one of our Federal Government Clients.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience in
    dimensional modelling and analytical modelling in enterprise environments
  • Strong proficiency in
    Microsoft SQL Server, Azure Data Services and Power BI
  • Must have
    a robust understanding of the data modelling and ETL lifecycle
  • Deep understanding of
    data warehousing principles, ETL processes, and BI architecture
  • Must have the ability to
    design dimensional models (star/snowflake schemas) for business applications and reporting solutions that support forecasting, trend analysis, and performance metrics.
  • Ability
    to communicate
    complex data concepts to technical and non-technical audiences
  • Proficient in
    documenting data models, definitions and ETL data mapping rules.
  • Excellent
    written and verbal communication skills
    , able to work effectively with diverse and geographically dispersed teams.

Desirable Skills

  • Familiarity with
    Microsoft Azure, SQL Server and emerging data tools in the Microsoft ecosystem
  • Prior experience in
    federal government data domains
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in a relevant field (
    e.g. Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, Engineering).

Responsibilities

  • Designing analytical solutions using Microsoft technologies & working closely with stakeholders and engineers to develop an end-to-end solution.
  • Ensure data models align with Microsoft best practices, particularly within Power BI and SQL Server environments.
  • Collaborate with data engineers, software developers, data analysts, and business stakeholders to translate requirements into scalable data models.
  • Maintain metadata repositories and data dictionaries in line with the organisation's data and application governance standards.
  • Optimise model performance for large-scale datasets and complex queries or application data access requirements.
  • Contribute to the development of semantic models in Power BI.
  • Following the Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) methodology for software development and contributing to Agile ceremonies.
  • Adhering to coding best practices and the organisation's code quality standards including version control, code documentation, and testing.
