About the Role

This is a unique opportunity to work at the core of government, supporting Cabinet and Committee operations that directly shape policy for the people of NSW. As a Senior Advisor, Cabinet, you'll coordinate Cabinet proposals and meetings, advise on policy and procedural matters, and manage confidential documentation and digital systems. You'll work closely with senior stakeholders across the NSW Government to ensure high-quality, timely Cabinet submissions aligned with government priorities.

You will also lead and deliver projects related to Cabinet operations and policy priorities and play a central role in developing and facilitating training for staff across government agencies. This includes educating stakeholders on Cabinet protocols, processes, and the use of the eCabinet system.

You will join our Cabinet team within the Cabinet and Governance branch in the Office of General Counsel – a highly regarded group at the centre of executive government decision-making.

About the Cabinet Team

The Cabinet team, part of The Cabinet Office (TCO), are stewards of Cabinet conventions and practices. We ensure that decisions of Cabinet and its Committees are informed, timely and aligned with strategic priorities. We work across the NSW public sector to deliver practical, high-quality support that enables good government and better outcomes for the community.

Our team provides expert advice to the Premier and senior decision-makers, ensures procedural integrity, develops digital systems (like eCabinet), and drives improvements in Cabinet practice through collaboration and innovation.

We're Looking For

We're seeking candidates who bring a combination of strategic thinking, communication, coordination and technical skill. Key capability areas include:

  • Project Management: Experienced in planning, executing, and monitoring projects from conception to completion, with the ability to manage multiple tasks, set priorities, and meet deadlines

  • Training and Development: Skilled in designing and delivering effective training programs to a variety of audiences, with the ability to communicate complex information clearly and accessibly

  • Organisational Skills: Highly organised with strong attention to detail and a commitment to producing accurate and high-quality work

  • Cabinet/Government Operations: Strong knowledge of Cabinet and government operations, including public sector ethics, confidentiality protocols, and the secure handling of sensitive information, with demonstrated experience supporting Ministerial or Cabinet processes and a sound understanding of executive decision-making and legislative requirements.

  • Stakeholder Engagement: Proven ability to build and maintain trusted relationships with a range of stakeholders, including senior executives, ministerial offices, and public sector agencies, to coordinate policy proposals and manage complex issues

  • Problem Solving and Adaptability: Solutions- and process-focused, with a proven ability to perform effectively in fast-paced and unpredictable environments, meeting strict deadlines and balancing competing demands

  • Technology Proficiency: Proficient in using digital systems to manage official records or workflows. Experience with Cabinet management systems (e.g. eCabinet) or similar platforms is highly desirable

  • Governance and Integrity: A strong understanding of confidentiality protocols, security of sensitive documents, and public sector ethics, with demonstrated ability to manage information in line with legislation and Cabinet practice

  • Communication and Collaboration: Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to prepare clear, high-quality advice, and correspondence for senior audiences. Proven team player who works effectively with colleagues and stakeholders to achieve shared goals in a fast-paced environment.
