Role Title: IT Infrastructure Officer

Engagement: Contract (2 Year Contract)

Location: Hervey Bay

Workplace Flexibility: On-site preferred (flexibility considered depending on project requirement)

Role Purpose The IT Infrastructure Officer will play a key role in the effective delivery, maintenance, and optimisation of ICT infrastructure services. The role is responsible for supporting core systems, networks, and platforms, ensuring reliability, availability, and security while contributing to modernisation and continuous improvement initiatives.

This position is suited to an IT professional with broad infrastructure expertise who thrives in operational support, project delivery, and stakeholder collaboration.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide operational support, monitoring, and maintenance of ICT infrastructure to ensure stability, performance, and availability of services.
  • Contribute to the planning, design, and implementation of infrastructure projects including upgrades, migrations, and modernisation initiatives.
  • Administer and maintain servers, storage, networks, and associated hardware and software platforms.
  • Support the management of identity, access, and authentication services.
  • Monitor system performance, capacity, and security, and take proactive steps to mitigate risks or disruptions.
  • Deliver technical documentation, procedures, and knowledge transfer for operational teams.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders, vendors, and contractors to align infrastructure solutions with business needs.
  • Ensure compliance with ICT policies, standards, and public-sector governance frameworks.
  • Support disaster recovery planning, testing, and execution.
  • Participate in after-hours or on-call support where required.

Deliverables

  • Stable and well-maintained infrastructure platforms that meet service levels.
  • Technical documentation including system configurations, procedures, and operational runbooks.
  • Implementation and support of infrastructure projects, upgrades, and migrations.
  • Monitoring and reporting on infrastructure health, capacity, and risks.
  • Disaster recovery testing outcomes and remediation actions.
  • Knowledge transfer and training materials for ICT operations staff.

Required Skills and Experience

  • Demonstrated experience supporting and maintaining ICT infrastructure in complex environments.
  • Strong knowledge of server, storage, and network administration.
  • Hands-on experience with Windows and/or Linux server environments.
  • Proficiency in virtualisation and hyperconverged infrastructure platforms.
  • Knowledge of Active Directory, identity management, and authentication services.
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms such as Microsoft Azure or AWS.
  • Experience with monitoring, performance tuning, and troubleshooting infrastructure issues.
  • Strong documentation, reporting, and stakeholder communication skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.

Desirable Experience and Skills

  • Industry certifications such as Microsoft, VMware, Cisco, or equivalent.
  • Experience with scripting and automation (PowerShell, Bash, or equivalent).
  • Exposure to backup, disaster recovery, and business continuity planning.
  • Familiarity with ITIL processes and service management frameworks.
  • Previous experience within government or regulated environments.
