Job Description
The opportunity
Reporting to the Underground Manager, the
Paste Fill Superintendent
will principally be responsible for the design, operation, and continuous improvement of the paste fill system to support safe, efficient, and cost-effective underground mining operations. The role ensures that stope filling meets geotechnical and production requirements, paste quality standards are maintained, and all related infrastructure and activities comply with company safety and environmental procedures.
This is a site-based role working on a FIFO 8:6 roster at our Duketon operations.
The Main Responsibilities Of This Role Include
- Design, maintain, and optimise paste fill systems, reticulation networks, and stope filling sequences to meet production schedules
- Design, update, and maintain pressure flow models to verify operating pressures and ensure safe, reliable operation of the reticulation system
- Conduct QA/QC testing and sampling to verify paste strength, consistency, and binder ratios meet
- specifications
- Prepare paste distribution plans aligned with mine schedules and coordinate fill sequencing with mining operations
- Monitor daily paste plant performance, diagnose operational issues, and recommend corrective actions to optimise throughput and reliability
- Collaborate with geotechnical engineers to assess stope stability and review paste curing performance
- Ensure environmental, safety, and hazard management standards are integrated into all paste fill
- activities
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to engineers, operators, and contractors to enhance capability and ensure best practices
- Support the development of paste plant operating budgets and monitor performance against forecasts
- Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly reports detailing paste production, reticulation performance, and key operational metrics
About You
Desired Skills and Experience
To Be Successful For This Role, You Will Have
- Bachelor's degree in mining, Civil, or Chemical Engineering, or equivalent practical experience
- Demonstrated experience in paste fill or backfill engineering within underground hard rock mining operations
- Proven experience in paste fill QA/QC, reticulation design, and production planning
- Demonstrated involvement in capital project execution and process optimisation initiatives
- Strong knowledge of paste fill and stope backfill mechanics, reticulation hydraulics, and underground infrastructure
- Proficiency with 3D mine design and modelling software (Deswik) and Microsoft Office
- S26 statutory supervisor certification highly advantageous
- Effective communication and coordination across multidisciplinary teams
- Strong problem-solving, risk assessment, and safety leadership skills
