Primary objective
Responsible for the direct provision of all required pharmaceutical services to clients and staff of Katherine Hospital including in-
patient and outpatient dispensing, supervision of technical staff; ward based clinical services, sterile manufacturing and provision
of drug information.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Provide a ward based clinical pharmacy service in accordance with departmental guidelines to nominated wards.
2. Supervise technical staff in accordance with the Medicines, Poisons and Therapeutic Goods Act and the Health Practitioners
Act.
3. Assist with in-patient, outpatient dispensing and related counselling.
4. Assist with provision of pharmacy services to specialised areas such as renal and oncology.
5. Provide culturally appropriate drug information and continuing education for clients and other hospital staff when required.
6. Assist in drug distribution, the manufacturing of pharmaceuticals, and maintenance of accurate prescription records.
7. Assist in the monitoring of drug use and implementation of pharmaceutical related policies within the NT Health Service.
8. Actively promote and participate in quality improvement initiatives including staff capacity and professional development
activities related to medication management.
9. Follow defined service quality standards, work health and safety policies and procedures relating to the work being undertaken
in order to ensure high quality, safe services and workplaces.
10.Foster a positive workplace culture through exemplary leadership practices and role modelling behaviour.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Registration as a Pharmacist with the Pharmacy Board of Australia and current experience in clinical pharmacy practice.
2. Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development.
3. Demonstrated leadership ability that includes interpersonal and conflict resolution and problem-solving capability.
4. Demonstrated competency in written and oral communication including report writing and computer literacy.
5. Willingness and ability to travel and spend some nights away from Katherine as part of departmental roster to cover Northern
Territory hospitals and hold a current NT drivers' licence.
6. Demonstrated ability to interact effectively with people from diverse cultures.
Desirable
1. Previous hospital pharmacy experience.
2. Postgraduate clinical qualification.
3. Previous experience working in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island health.

Primary objective
Manage, lead, and develop the pharmacy service at Katherine Hospital, to ensure delivery of a high quality, culturally appropriate
and effective pharmacy advisory and medicines distribution service. To provide professional leadership and
supervision/mentorship in the Big Rivers Region.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Ensure that the delivery of the pharmacy service is coordinated and consistent with legislative and best practice requirements,
departmental and program policy and in accordance with detailed standard operating procedures.
2. Lead the pharmacy team with the provision of pharmacy services to specialised areas such as renal and oncology.
- Ensure continuing quality improvement in pharmacy service delivery through effective monitoring, auditing, review and
reporting processes and responsibility for pharmacy service resource allocation.
4. Lead the pharmacy team with responsibility for staff supervision, assist with performance management, monitoring of work
partnership plans and continued professional development activities.
- Actively participate in and provide leadership or consultancy services when required in Territory-wide and local health forums,
conferences and meetings relevant to duties and functions of the position.
- Lead the development of improvements in the safety and quality of services at local and Territory-wide level.
- Maintain a commitment to ensuring contemporary knowledge and professional development through membership of
appropriate organisations and participation in structured professional development activities.
8. Follow defined service quality standards, work health and safety policies and procedures relating to the work being undertaken
in order to ensure high quality, safe services and workplaces.
9. Foster a positive workplace culture through exemplary leadership practices and role modelling behaviour.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. A degree or equivalent qualification in Pharmacy and registration as a pharmacist with AHPRA.
2. A minimum of 5 years contemporary clinical pharmacy experience, preferably in hospital pharmacy and a demonstrated
commitment to maintain currency of clinical knowledge.
3. Experience in management and leadership within Hospital Pharmacy.
4. Excellent negotiation and communication skills, ability to think laterally and solve complex problems with initiative.
5. Ability to interact effectively with people from diverse cultures and ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
6. Demonstrated ability to provide expert advice on the interpretation of legislation and policies relating to the use of medicines
in health services in regional and remote Australia.
7. Willingness to participate in continuing education activities both of self and provision of education sessions to hospital staff
and supervising students.
- Practical understanding and experience in the implementation of the National Safety and Quality Health Service Standards and
a commitment to continuous quality improvement.
Desirable
1. Postgraduate qualification in relevant field (e.g. clinical pharmacy, public health or management).
2. Previous experience working with aboriginal health.
