About the opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Payroll Team Lead to provide effective leadership, coaching, and guidance to a team of Payroll professionals. This team deliver high quality, efficient and effective payroll processing and transactional services across the University. Furthermore, this position will be responsible for delivering tools and frameworks to support and build HR capability, this includes a focus on HR program management, service metrics, opportunities for process and service improvement, and to drive quality initiatives that support overall performance of the HR function.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

  • lead a team of Senior and Junior Payroll Officers to oversee fortnightly payroll efficiently and effectively, on-time, every time
  • work as a senior in the payroll team with a strong focus on providing advice, guidance and mentoring to Payroll Officers to ensure deadlines are met and the payroll service is provided in an accurate and timely manner
  • participate in ongoing process improvement and various other projects, programs of work and committees to align with the overall University's strategic direction
  • ensure that appropriate sign-off for any and all pay runs are documented, saved and circulated and work closely with the Payroll Services Team to ensure full, complete and well governed sign-off every pay-run
  • responsible for team performance using metrics, benchmarks and SLAs. Strong advocate of ServiceNow and associated performance dashboards.

About you

  • postgraduate qualifications - in a relevant field or an equivalent combination of training and experience
  • experience in people management, including managing staff performance and development
  • interpreting and applying legislation, enterprise agreements and policies
  • experience in end-to-end payroll processing and payroll administration
  • ability to communicate effectively with accuracy and attention to detail
  • previous experience in a high-volume customer service environment.
