About the Opportunity

This is a great opportunity to work at Liverpool Hospital in the area of rehabilitation outpatients. You will be part of a large supportive department. The role includes multidisciplinary teamwork and a variety of models of care.

What You'll be Doing

The position is responsible for leading, guiding and managing the delivery of speech pathology services to the outpatient rehabilitation caseload. As a senior clinician the speech pathologist is responsible for overseeing and providing an efficient and effective service through the application of clinical expertise and knowledge in the management of patients with acquired communication impairment and/or oropharyngeal dysphagia, including those associated with neurological and neurodegenerative conditions. They will also contribute to senior departmental duties including clinical supervision, leading of quality improvement activities, participation in service development and other administrative responsibilities as required.

Where You'll Be Working

Liverpool Hospital, founded in 1813, is the major health service for south-western Sydney, providing services to the local government area of Liverpool City Council as well as district services to residents and visitors in the area. It also provides a range of state-wide services in areas such as critical care and trauma, neonatal intensive care and brain injury rehabilitation.

The Hospital provides a health service of international standing, with 23 operating theatres, capacity for 877 beds, diagnostic and imaging services, emergency and trauma care, maternity, paediatric, cancer care, mental health, ambulatory care, allied health and medical and surgical services from birth to aged care.

Liverpool Hospital is currently undergoing a major redevelopment. The $790 million Liverpool Health and Academic Precinct (LHAP) project will provide enhanced facilities and an increased capacity to meet future significant population growth for South Western Sydney.

Liverpool Hospital is a principal referral and teaching Hospital of the UNSW Sydney and the Western Sydney University and also welcome students from over 20 universities and colleges.

Located in the heart of Liverpool City, the hospital is close to public transport, shopping centres and eateries.

  • Must hold a bachelor or post graduate degree in speech pathology which is accredited as eligibility for membership of Speech Pathology Australia.
  • Advanced clinical knowledge and postgraduate experience and skills in comprehensive assessment, collaborative goal setting and delivery of evidenced based rehabilitation for patients with acquired communication impairments.
  • Advanced clinical knowledge and postgraduate experience and skills in the assessment and management of oropharyngeal dysphagia, including the use of instrumental assessment.
  • Knowledge and experience in working with patients and families of culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.
  • Demonstrated commitment to EBP and experience implementing EBP into service planning and evaluation of service changes.
  • Applicants must possess an Australian C-Class driver's license (including P1 or P2). Those who hold a C class license (P1 or P2 included) from a state other than NSW must obtain a NSW C class (P1 or P2 included) license within three months of appointment. Learner's licenses are not permitted.
