This is an unparalleled opportunity for a highly skilled and hands-on Senior Data Engineer to join fatsecret, a dynamic, small company at the forefront of the weight loss and nutrition industry. We are seeking a leader to drive the next phase of our data and analytics journey, leveraging cutting-edge tools and a modern data platform. You'll not only ensure our platform is reliable, cost-efficient and scalable, but also supervise and mentor an Analytics Engineer. Partnering closely with the CTO and cross-functional teams, you will be instrumental in delivering trusted insights to power our global products. This role demands strong technical expertise in modern data engineering practices, cloud infrastructure, and DevOps, but also critical soft skills to lead impactful conversations within the business about data insights, AI, and more, truly shaping our future.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, maintain, and optimise data pipelines
    in Airbyte and Prefect, ensuring scalability, reliability, and observability.
  • Manage AWS infrastructure with Terraform
    , including compute, storage, networking, and security resources.
  • Review and optimise data models and warehouse performance
    in Snowflake.
  • Collaborate with backend engineers
    to sync application data into Snowflake.
  • Ingest and maintain external data sources
    such as Google Analytics, App Stores, Strapi and CleverTap.
  • Oversee event tracking pipelines
    in Rudderstack, ensuring accuracy, monitoring volumes, and optimising costs.
  • Implement and manage CI/CD pipelines
    for safer, automated testing and deployments across data workflows.
  • Define and maintain disaster recovery and business continuity plans.
  • Provide technical guidance and supervision
    to the Analytics Engineer, fostering knowledge sharing and growth.

What you bring to the table

  • 3-5 years of experience in
    data engineering
    or related fields.
  • Proven expertise with
    AWS
    (EC2, ECS, S3, IAM, CloudWatch, Networking, Security).
  • Strong experience with
    infrastructure-as-code (Terraform)
    .
  • Hands-on experience with
    ETL/ELT tools
    (Airbyte, Prefect, Python).
  • Deep knowledge of
    Snowflake
    (or similar data warehouses), including cost/performance optimisation.
  • Strong programming skills in
    Python
    for data processing and automation.
  • Containerisation and orchestration
    expertise (Docker and Kubernetes or equivalent).
  • Strong background in
    CI/CD practices
    (e.g. GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, or similar).
  • Solid understanding of
    data governance, security, and disaster recovery
    .
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to work independently while collaborating across teams.

Bonus if you have

  • Experience with
    dbt
    for managing data transformations.
  • Familiarity with monitoring/alerting solutions (e.g. Prometheus, Datadog).
  • Background in the
    health, nutrition, or consumer apps industry
    .

  • Core stack: Snowflake, Airbyte, Prefect, dbt, Rudderstack, Tableau, running on AWS with Terraform, Docker, Kubernetes, and CI/CD pipelines.
  • You will report to the
    CTO
    and work closely with the
    Analytics Engineer
    .
  • This is a hybrid role with two days at the office.
