About the Role

NJE operates into some of the most remote and demanding locations in Australia. Typically, there will be aerodrome reporting officer(s) and an aerodrome manager responsible for the aerodrome operations. The aerodrome manager (AM) has overall responsibility for the turnaround of Company aircraft, and also the maintenance of the aerodrome and its associated facilities. At some of these locations NJE AM on site to oversee all air operations in and out of that aerodrome including liaison with the client.

Reporting Relationship

This role reports to the National Ground Operations Manager.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

· Oversee Aerodrome Operations: Manage turnaround of aircraft, ensuring safe and efficient operations at the aerodrome.

· Aerodrome Maintenance: Ensure the aerodrome and associated facilities are maintained to regulatory standards.

· Compliance with Regulatory Standards: Ensure operations adhere to Part 139 CASR and MOS standards for certified aerodromes.

· Aerodrome Start-Up Assessment: Complete compatibility assessments and new aerodrome checklists before commencing operations.

· Safety and Operational Risk Management: Identify and mitigate risks associated with aerodrome infrastructure and aircraft operations.

· Personnel Training and Certification: Ensure all required inductions, training and certifications for Aerodrome Reporting Officers (ARO) and ground handling staff are completed and up to date.

· Serviceability Inspections: Conduct or oversee regular aerodrome serviceability inspections, as per regulatory requirements.

· Incident Management: Respond to and manage aircraft accidents and incidents, following emergency procedures and notifying authorities as required.

· Reporting Officer Supervision: Ensure appropriate reporting officers are appointed and available to monitor aerodrome conditions.

· Aerodrome Manual Maintenance: Ensure that the aerodrome manual is up-to-date with all operating procedures and contact details for reporting officers.

· Unsealed Runway Management: Oversee testing and maintenance of unsealed runways using Clegg hammer testing equipment to assess runway strength and suitability.

Skills and Experience

Essential Qualifications and Training

  • Current Aerodrome Reporting Officer (ARO) qualification.
  • Aeronautical Radio Operator Certificate.
  • Valid Dangerous Goods Awareness certification.

Experience

  • Experienced in all aspects of ground handling operations, including baggage/passenger handling, cargo acceptance, load control, and aircraft turnaround.
  • Proven experience managing Aerodrome operations, ideally within remote or regional environments.
  • Demonstrated ability to oversee aircraft turnarounds, ground handling, and aerodrome maintenance to regulatory standards.
  • Sound knowledge of CASA Part 139 and MOS compliance requirements.
  • Experience conducting aerodrome inspections and ensuring all documentation is current and compliant.
  • Background in incident response, emergency management, and personnel supervision within an aviation setting.
