The Position
This is an outstanding opportunity to be part of an exciting team at Sydney zoo in the role of our Aquatics Manager, utilising your skills in an area that you are genuinely passionate about. This role will commence as soon as possible.
The Aquatics Manager's role is to assist in developing relevant SOPs and protocols, maintaining and calibrating equipment, stock testing suppliers, and aide in Sydney Zoo research in water quality management.
The position supports Operations, Animal Care and Veterinary Services to provide the highest Aquatics Management and water quality for the animal collection of the Sydney Zoo Aquarium. The Aquatics Manager ensures Sydney Zoo is compliant with all regulatory bodies.
Skills, Knowledge, and Relevant Experience
Essential
- Minimum of 5 years' experience in Aquarium Management.
- Experience in habitat maintenance and the ability to review habitats and to assess their visitor appeal.
- Experience with Ozone application and monitoring
- Experience with aquarium life support systems.
- Thorough knowledge of freshwater and saltwater chemistry.
- Plumbing & mechanical skills.
- Project management and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to adapt to changing operating environments.
- Thorough understanding of the World Aquarium and Zoo and Aquarium Association (WAZA)
- Conservation and Animal Welfare Strategies and demonstrated knowledge of implementation thereof, with the emphasis on the Australasian region.
