The Role:
It's never been a more exciting time to be joining Navantia Australia, one of Australia's leading companies in the Maritime Defence industry.
Navantia Australia has been awarded the Designer Support Contract to provide comprehensive design and engineering support to all Navantia-designed ships in service with the Royal Australian Navy. This landmark contract marks a significant milestone for Navantia Australia, as it is the company's first contract held directly with the Commonwealth of Australia (CoA), underscoring its commitment to innovation and excellence in the maritime industry.
We have an exciting opportunity for a Technical Design Authority to join the team out of its Darling Park, Sydney and Garden Island office. The Design Authority is an engineering governance role responsible for ensuring the design integrity, safety, and seaworthiness of all engineering deliverables and activities related to platform sustainment. Working under a Level 2 Technical delegation from the Navantia Australia Chief Engineer, the Design Authority provides program-independent engineering review and assurance for all engineering deliverables.
This is a fantastic opportunity to work alongside industry leaders and like-minded engineers on sustaining Navantia designed warships in service with the Royal Australian Navy (including Hobart Class DDGs, Canberra Class LHDs and Supply Class AORs).
Your responsibilities will include:
- Exercise the role of Technical Delegation in accordance with Navantia Australia policy and process, including:
- Administration of technical delegation framework for the program.
- Assurance of the application of robust engineering processes by competent engineers.
- Assurance of appropriate application of system safety engineering and seaworthiness principles.
- Independent review and approval of engineering deliverables.
- Delivery of Designer's Certificate, as applicable, to accompany engineering deliverables.
- Support the development of program-specific engineering plans and procedures.
- Support the application of Systems Engineering principles in the development of innovative and quality engineering solutions.
- Participate in design coordination meetings with the rest of the Engineering Team members.
- Participate in Design Review Meetings with the client.
- Review and endorse the technical inputs of project plans and scope definitions for engineering activities.
- Act as the principal technical advisor for customer engagement relating to engineering processes and outputs.
- Manage key relationships with the SPO.
As the ideal candidate, you will have:
- Qualification in Engineering.
- Minimum 15 years' experience in maritime systems engineering, with proven breadth of knowledge across naval ship systems.
- Proven skills and experience in a naval environment working as a technical authority or subject matter expert.
- Proven and demonstrated integrity in administering systems engineering process.
- Experience as working with engineering standards and class society rules.
• Excellent project management skills. - Demonstrated ability to operate autonomously using initiative, sound reasoning, listening and decision-making skills.
- Demonstrated ability to deliver results in a high-pressure environment.
- Ability to communicate effectively and build positive relationships at all levels of the business and clients.
- Experience in managing design and engineering projects
- Australian Citizenship.
