About AC3
At AC3, our purpose is simple but powerful: make technology real.
We're Australia's leading secure multi-cloud and managed services provider, trusted by over 700 enterprise and government customers to deliver cloud, cyber, data, and digital solutions that transform business outcomes. Ranked #4 on Australia's Best Places to Work, we combine world-class tech capability with a genuine, down-to-earth culture.
The Team
We're the crew behind the backbone - the networks, carriers and connectivity that keep Australia's critical platforms online. Our Hybrid Cloud Networks & Carriers team owns the core network fabric for AC3 and our customers, and we're looking for a Lead Network Engineer who lives and breathes routing, switching and automation.
If BGP, EVPN and NX-OS are your happy place, you enjoy being the person people come to for gnarly network problems, and you're ready to shape the future state of a serious multi-vendor backbone, this is your playground.
The Role
As the Lead Network Engineer, you will act as the senior technical authority within the Networks & Carriers team. You will oversee the design, provisioning, optimisation, and lifecycle management of AC3's network infrastructure. This role requires exceptional technical expertise, a strategic mindset, and a demonstrated ability to lead and mentor others.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design, deployment, and management of network infrastructure across Cisco, Palo Alto, Juniper, Arista, F5 and other platforms.
- Oversee lifecycle activities, including installation, configuration, patching, upgrades, migrations, and decommissioning.
- Manage relationships with external networking vendors, carriers, and transit providers.
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to team members, acting as 2IC where required.
- Drive operational excellence through proactive monitoring, capacity planning, and continuous improvement.
- Ensure security and compliance with AC3's ISO27K obligations.
- Participate in the on-call roster for escalations and incident response.
About You
- Minimum of 10 years' experience with carrier-level networking devices across the full lifecycle.
- Strong technical expertise in networking and security platforms (Cisco, Palo Alto, Arista, Juniper, Checkpoint, F5).
- Demonstrated experience with Australian carriers, transit providers, and cloud networking (AWS, Azure).
- Proven experience with automation technologies such as Ansible, Puppet, Python, or Perl.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage competing priorities.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with experience engaging across all levels of an organisation.
- Relevant certifications (Cisco CCIE, Palo Alto, Juniper, etc.) highly regarded.
- ITIL v3 (or later) certification desirable.
Please note: Due to the nature of this position, Australian Citizenship is a mandatory requirement. The successful candidate must be eligible to obtain and maintain a security clearance.
What We Offer
- The opportunity to act as a senior technical leader within a highly skilled team.
- Exposure to a wide range of leading-edge networking and cloud technologies.
- A collaborative culture that values professional excellence and continuous improvement.
- $150,000 - $160,000 Base + Super + Bonus
- Ongoing professional development and certification support.
How to Apply
If you are a highly capable network engineer seeking an opportunity to lead, influence, and deliver impactful outcomes, we would love to hear from you. Please submit your application today.
