CBC Fremantle is a Catholic school in the Edmund Rice tradition for boys in Years 7 to 12. This role works closely with the Science Learning Area and is responsible to the Principal through the Head of Science.
Position Details
- This is a full time (1.0 FTE) ongoing contract, commencing as soon as possible.
- Annual and other leave to be taken during term holidays.
- Salary will be negotiated with the successful applicant based upon qualifications and experience.

Key Responsibilities
The successful applicant will:
Prepare laboratory experiments including the fabrication and installation of equipment for specified classes or research projects, assist in maintaining laboratories and resources including ensuring that safety for staff and students is a high priority, and providing administrative support to the Science department.
- Set up equipment for use in laboratories, ensuring proper operation of equipment and manage major operation deficiencies.
- Prepare chemical solutions for use in laboratory experiments and design and construct laboratory equipment as required.
- Assist in laboratory experiments as appropriate and provide guidance in learning and/or functional operation of experiments and equipment.
- Clean equipment after laboratory exercises are completed, dismantling and storing equipment and supplies as applicable.
- Order, maintain and catalogue where necessary or obtain quotes for chemistry and science resources as directed.
- Maintain proper chemical safety including appropriate monitoring of all hazardous chemicals, monitoring mandatory compliance testing as required, ensuring availability of protective safety gear, fume hoods and first aid kits and assist in school safety by maintaining appropriate SDS files.
- Maintain classrooms and preparation areas by monitoring safety, security and resource supplies. Assist in keeping Labs clean, particularly lab benches & storage shelves.
- Report electrical faults & other room damage to the Property Manager in order to coordinate repair.
- Ensure correct and up to date budgetary records. These records should be transparent to the Business Manager and Head of Science Department.
- Ensure the correct documentation and timelines are adhered to for all animal usage. This particularly refers to the Schools Animal Ethics Code of Practice (SAEC).
- Perform an annual stock take of the science resources. This must be undertaken before the end of Term 3 each year in preparation for the following year's budgetary requirements.
- Make up chemical solutions; prepare and sterilise media and instruments; maintain cultures, specimens etc. as required.
- Collect specimens and materials for practical classes.
- Clear return practicals, clean items where necessary and return neatly to store.
- Assist with administrative and other general duties as directed.
- Ensure continuation of knowledge and skills through appropriate professional learning opportunities.
- Other duties may be assigned within the Science department.
